Folk ways to treat diseases that are very dangerous to health

It so happened that in Russia it is very populartraditional medicine - some people trust "grandmother's" methods of treating diseases more than modern medicines. To be convinced of this, it is enough to remember your childhood: how often were you treated with shock doses of onions and garlic, hot tea with lemon, steam from potatoes, and so on? They must have tried to treat everyone in this way - in fairness it is worth noting that some of these methods really quickly relieved the symptoms of a cold. However, over time, people's knowledge of the human body has greatly expanded, and today some of the folk methods of treating diseases are considered dangerous to health. Let's talk about them and find out what harm they can do to the human body.

Some traditional medicines are effective but can be dangerous

The benefits and harms of inhalation over potatoes

Hot steam inhalation over potatoes is one of thethe most famous folk remedies for the treatment of colds. Surely every person remembers how, in childhood, parents boiled potatoes and forced him to breathe steam under a blanket. It was believed that when inhaling hot steam, a person accelerates the excretion of sputum, and this is true, because in this way it is really possible to remove mucus from the body.

Probably, in childhood, everyone breathed over potatoes

Inhalation over potatoes is sometimes very effective, but during the procedure you need to be as careful as possible. It is important to ensure that the steam from the potatoes is not scalding. For children, the temperature should not exceed 40 degrees, and for adults - 50 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, a person can get burns of the skin, mucous membranes of the oral cavity, and even suffer from swelling of the larynx. Due to hot steam, the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, which are needed to protect the respiratory tract, can suffer. This is fraught with the fact that even more infections will enter the human body.

With traditional medicine, you need to be careful not to damage the internal organs

Breathing over potatoes is strictly prohibited whenhigh temperature, bronchitis, sinusitis and sore throat - hot steam can aggravate inflammation. Also, inhalation over potatoes is contraindicated for people with high blood pressure. In some cases, people even lost consciousness.

Soda for heartburn - why is it harmful

When the contents of the stomach for some reasonis in the esophagus, a person has heartburn. Everyone has probably come across this phenomenon and will agree that these sensations are extremely unpleasant. The most popular method of treating heartburn is to take a small amount of soda - it reacts with hydrochloric acid and discomfort quickly disappears. Especially often pregnant women resort to baking soda, because many special medicines are prohibited for them.

Soda for heartburn is not only ineffective, but also dangerous

However, after some relief, heartburnarises again, and with even greater force - the effectiveness of this folk method is very low. When baking soda reacts with hydrochloric acid, a large amount of carbon dioxide is produced. It can greatly stretch the walls of the stomach and severely damage it if there are any ulcers. There are cases when, after drinking soda, people have tissue ruptures.

Does oil help with burns?

Craftsmen at one time came up with a wayreduce the pain of burns - the affected area was covered with vegetable oil. What they expected is not clear, because there is no benefit from it, only harm. According to experts, a layer of oil on the surface of the burn creates a kind of "greenhouse effect" and prevents air from penetrating the affected area. Because of this, the temperature of the skin only rises, the pain intensifies, and the tissues are damaged. The best thing to do for a burn is to cool the skin, but you also need to be careful with this so that the temperature drop is not too sharp.

Burns should never be covered with oil.

What are dangerous brilliant green and iodine

In every home first aid kit there is brilliant green and iodine -these substances have long been used to prevent infections from entering wounds. Zelenka and iodine are often smeared with abrasions, pimples, cuts and other injuries, and rightly so. But, some people treat them with great damage, which in no case should be done. Firstly, brilliant green and iodine will prevent you from visually determining the onset of suppuration, which is fraught with serious complications. Secondly, in this way you can suffer from a chemical burn.

What not to do with a nosebleed

When a person bleeds from his nose, he, according to the oldmemory, throws his head back - so many of us were taught by grandmothers. Thus, you can save clothes from blood stains, but the body will not thank you for this. When the head is thrown back, blood can easily enter the esophagus, and then into the stomach - as a result, nausea and vomiting will occur. If there is a lot of blood and the person is unconscious, this can even cause suffocation. For nosebleeds, it is best to lean forward and hold a handkerchief in your hand. To stop the bleeding, it is better to apply a cold compress to the bridge of the nose.

When bleeding from the nose, do not tilt your head back
