More than 30 intelligent civilizations can exist in our galaxy.

When almost 500 years ago, Nikolai Copernicus, andFollowing this, Giordano Bruno questioned our place in the Universe, assuming the existence of other worlds, the anger of the holy inquisition fell upon them. The very idea that the Sun does not revolve around the Earth, and that there are other planets on the expanses of the Universe in those years was considered a crime, however today robotic vehicles plow the space, and people constantly live in the orbit of our planet (we are talking about the ISS). But even despite the discovery of more than 4,000 exoplanets, we were unable to find traces of alien life. But does this mean that we are alone? According to a study by scientists from the University of Nottingham, more than 30 intelligent civilizations can exist in our galaxy.

British astrophysicists have calculated that in our galaxy at least 30 intelligent civilizations

Life Beyond the Earth

When I think of life beyond the Earth, II recall the words of the genius science fiction writer, Sir Charles Arthur Clark: “There are two possibilities: either we are alone in the Universe, or not. Both are equally terrible. ” But even despite the “horror” that hides the answer, the search for extraterrestrial life forms continues. Mankind has managed to find out that the Universe is not limited by the Solar system. The images of 200 thousand galaxies taken by the Hubble Space Telescope cause dizziness, and there are more and more questions about the nature of things.

The scientific method allowed a person to go out into the openspace, send real robots to the nearest planets and even send one of them directly to the Sun. Undoubtedly, science is the only way to know the structure of the world and the universe. Recently, British scientists have discovered that more than 30 alien civilizations can exist in our galaxy. The new work was aimed at understanding how many planets in our area can be home to alien life. I note that the researchers proceeded from the fact that life develops on other planets in the same way as on Earth.

As astronomers write in a paper published inThe Astrophysical Journal, in the Milky Way, there can be dozens of active civilizations waiting in the wings. Moreover, work can also shed light on our own destiny and suggests that our prospects for long-term survival are lower than we might think.

In our galaxy there should be at leastdozens of active civilizations, if we assume that it takes 5 billion years to form intelligent life on other planets, like on Earth. The idea is to consider cosmic evolution. We call this calculation the Astrobiological principle of Copernicus.

Christopher Conselis, professor of astronomy at the University of Nottingham.

Copernicus principle (also the principle of mediocrity and mediocrity) is that neither the Earth nor the Sun occupy any special position in the Universe.

As the researchers write in the paper,The astrobiological principle of Copernicus is of two kinds. One of them is a “weak” principle, which implies that intelligent life is formed on the planet at any time after 5 billion years. Another “strong” principle suggests that life on the planets formed between 4.5 and 5 billion years ago.

More than 30 advanced civilizations can easily exist in the Milky Way

In the work, scientists proceeded from the "strong" principleCopernicus and suggesting that alien life forms should develop in metal-rich environments. This is because people developed near the metal-rich environment due to the metal present on the sun. According to The Independent, previous studies conducted in 2012 suggest an acceptable “minimum amount of stellar metals" needed to form planets similar to Earth. Researchers then used assumptions about where life might form in order to understand how many planets in the Milky Way could satisfy these conditions.

I note that the discovery of any civilizations in ourthe galaxy is heavily dependent on our ability to pick up signals sent into space. These include satellite broadcasts and television. If developed technological civilizations last as long as ours (and we send signals into space over the last century or so), then, according to scientists, 36 intelligent civilizations can exist in our galaxy!

Will the first contact take place?

So, if the authors of the new study are right, thenwhy have we still not received any evidence of the existence of other intelligent life forms? The authors of the work believe that the whole thing is cosmic distances - the average distance to any possible civilization is 17,000 light years, which makes communication a very difficult task. For other reasons, the answer, alas, is disappointing: we are the only intelligent life in the galaxy, and civilizations are dying before they can be found.

We all want to believe that in this frightening, cosmic void, we are not alone.

If someday scientists find that reasonablelife in the Universe is widespread - I recently wrote about this in a previous article - it will show that our civilization can exist much longer than several hundred years. And if traces of rational civilizations cannot be found, this will mean that the long-term existence of our civilization is not possible.

One way or another, in search of an extraterrestrial intelligent life - even if we find nothing - we study our own future and destiny.
