Two-factor authentication at the "Gosuslugi" will become mandatory from June 1

Two-factor authentication on "Gosuslugakh" will become mandatory, RIA Novosti reports with reference to

words of the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev. An additional authentication factor at the State Services, in addition to the username and password, will become mandatory from June 1. The minister said that the program will start on March 1, then the ministry will gradually introduce the second factor as mandatory.

“We, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, are improving the protection system (for“Gosuslugakh” – ed.), and now we are actually saying that we are introducing a mandatory program for the second factor. Now, in order to gain access to the "Public Services", a login and password are enough. We believe that at the moment this is not enough, it is necessary to use the second factor for authorization. This is either SMS or additional authentication. This will allow us to provide security for those users who use simple passwords, whose accounts are exposed to virus attacks ... The second factor guarantees better protection, ”the head of the ministry explained.
