Enthusiasts were able to modify the Steam Deck screenOLED, increasing its refresh rate to 120 Hz. The custom, called "Steam Deck Refresh Rate Expander", is available for download online. It expands screen refresh capabilities to 70Hz for the standard LCD model and up to 120Hz for OLED models from BOE and SDC.
It is noted that the modification has not yet beentested on models with Samsung panels. According to recent reports, the new version of Steam Deck runs smoothly, although brightness and gamma issues may occur at refresh rates above 110Hz.
At the same time, increasing the screen refresh ratehas almost no effect on battery life, which makes this modification attractive for game streaming, indie projects and older games that can support high frame rates on the device specifications.
