Design and features
MSI has been paying a lot of attention to the look of its laptops lately, while keeping the design simple and minimalistic.
The corners of the MSI Prestige 15 A12UC (2022) are slightlyrounded, and on the back you will find only a small company logo. There are gray and silver colors to choose from, and in both cases the case back has a nice matte finish. The case is made of plastic and aluminum, and the display unfolds to the very end - it can even lie on the table.
The screen hinge on the Prestige 15 A12UC (2022) is normal and the top of the keyboard does not lift up when opened.
The Prestige 15 weighs only 1.69 kg and isis 18.9 mm. The build quality is a little disappointing - the screen is solid, but the area around the keyboard flexes even with light pressure. According to MSI, the laptop is MIL-STD-810G compliant and should withstand bumps and drops, but it doesn't feel solid. The same problem was with MSI Prestige 14 Evo, and it has not been resolved yet.
Laptop screen
The screen of the MSI Prestige 15 A12UC is not bad, but inferior to the displays of many competitors.
This is a 15.6 inch resolution IPS panel1920x1080 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate. The brightness does not exceed 340 nits, which is enough for indoor use, although it may not be enough outdoors on a sunny day. The minimum brightness is reduced to 0.27 nits, which gives a high contrast ratio of 1256:1. Colors are nice and saturated, and an average deltaE of 1.16 means there are no problems with their accuracy.
It is worth remembering that the Prestige 15 is not the most expensive laptop, and it has its limitations.
Panel sRGB color space coverageis 90.1%, while Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 are just over 60%. For most everyday tasks, this is normal, but you should not count on accurate work with graphics. The same goes for the refresh rate, which does not exceed 60 Hz - gamers are better off with a different laptop.
Connectors and ports
On the left side of the MSI Prestige 15 A12UC (2022), there are two Thunderbolt 4 connectors and an HDMI 2.0 output.
On the right are two full-sized USBs and a slotfor microSD card. There is a 720p webcam with Windows Hello support in the top bezel above the screen, but the image quality is not good enough. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 are responsible for communication, when there was no Ethernet port here.
Keyboard and trackpad
Although the surface around the keyboard flexes, typing on the MSI Prestige 15 A12UC is more than comfortable.
The keys have a fairly deep travel of 1.5 mm, and pressingthey are nice, so the laptop is ideal for typing large amounts of text. There is also a bright backlight that allows you to print in the dark without any problems. True, there are some questions about the layout.
Yes, there are separate Page Up and Page Down buttons, when the arrows were full size. However, the numeric keypad is missing, and the Enter key is the same height as the rest of the buttons, which may be unusual for many. Also, the Fn key is too small.
The trackpad on the Prestige 15 A12UC (2022) is not the best either, although the model is focused on work.
Let it be big and wide, and in the upper lefteven a fingerprint scanner is installed in the corner, the touch panel is mechanical. Because of this, the feedback during use is not the best, and when pressing at the top, you have to put too much effort.
Iron productivity
The tested MSI Prestige 15 A12UC (2022) runs on an Intel Core i7-1280P processor belonging to the Alder Lake-P family.
These chipsets are designed primarily for thin and light laptops, but the Core i7-1280P is quite powerful - it uses six powerful cores clocked at up to 4.8 GHz.
But DDR4 RAM can be 8 or 16GB, but it will not be possible to increase this volume. The SSD has good read and write speeds - 6831 MB / s and 5096 MB / s, and the capacity is 512 GB or 1 TB. If you don't install a lot of games, this should be enough.
MSI has installed an entry-level Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 (3050 Ti) mobile graphics card into the laptop, and this is a stripped-down version with a power consumption of 40W instead of 80W.
In addition, the performance of the mobile versionof this video card is not as high as that of a full-fledged PC. However, the speed of the Prestige 15 is also doing well. In the GeekBench performance test, the laptop scores 1448 points in single-core mode and 9025 in multi-core mode.
The device can easily cope with any dailytask and suitable for photo processing. The laptop performs well in games as well. In Far Cry New Dawn with Ultra graphics settings, you can count on 63 fps, and in Rainbow Six Siege - at 182 fps.
True, such a frequency will be useful only inif you connect a monitor with a high refresh rate. In addition, in the most demanding games, performance will be worse - in Cyberpunk 2070, only 42 fps at medium graphics settings.
Autonomy MSI Prestige 15 A12UC
In terms of battery life, MSI's Prestige 15 A12UC does well, thanks to its 82Wh battery.
One full charge of the laptop battery is enough for 12 hours of standard tasks or 12 hours of video viewing. So by the end of the working day, your device should not run out of power.
Total
Despite the low price, MSI Prestige 15 A12UC (2022) is able to compete with more expensive laptops.
Performance here is excellent, thanks toan Intel Core i7-1280P processor, and a GeForce RTX 3050 or 3050 Ti version delivers high frame rates in most games. The backlit keyboard is comfortable for typing large amounts of text, and the battery life is sufficient.
Only the build quality is a little disappointing, and the display here is not the best. However, for its price, the Prestige 15 is very good. It's hard to find a better laptop in this price segment.
Should I buy
The MSI Prestige 15 from MSI is a great option for those who are looking for a good laptop with powerful hardware and a discrete graphics card for all everyday tasks and modern games.
