Announcement. PocketBook 740 Color with a large color ink screen!

The year 2020 became the year when color readersscreens have finally gone to the people. The first devices that appeared on the market, PocketBook 633 Color and Onyx Boox Poke2 Color, were six-inch. I researched Poke2 Color myself, read a lot of reviews on 633 Color. And everywhere the same thought constantly came through. A color screen in an e-book is either for children's picture books or for something serious like reference books. The problem is that textbooks-reference books exist, as a rule, in PDF-format, and you don't particularly read it on a six-inch screen, you need something more.

The ice has broken, gentlemen of the jury! We meet PocketBook 740 Color with 7.8 ″ screen! This, of course, is less than a sheet of A5 paper, but already more than a sheet of A6 paper.

PocketBook 740 Color is based on the PocketBook 740 and PocketBook 740 Pro devices. Replaced the screen. We installed a more capacious battery. Apparently, there are no other differences.

Let's start with prices.PocketBook 740 1 + 8 GB now costs ₽17,990 ($ 237). PocketBook 740 Pro 1 + 16 GB costs ₽19990 ($ 263). PocketBook 740 Color 1 + 16 GB is more expensive, but purely symbolic. Only ₽21,999 ($ 290) - and this is a fucking pleasant surprise, excuse my French.

Screen 7.8 ″ E-Ink Kaleido second generation with backlight. Like the first generation, it can display only 4096 colors. But, they say, it has become brighter and more contrasting.

Black and white resolution is classic300 ppi (1404 x 1872). There is no information about the color resolution. Most likely, the same 100 ppi remained as in the first generation. Who does not know - color ink is a very original technology. I recently examined them under a microscope and even wrote a small note with pictures, from which it becomes clear why black and white and color resolutions are different.

There is no reliable information about the hardware.Something dual-core with a frequency of 1 GHz. Most likely, this is a specialized "reading" chipset Allwinner B288. The chip is low-powered, but note that PocketBook 740 Color is not an Android device, it has its own operating system. And she doesn't need much power.

Memory. 1 GB operational, 16 GB constant. There is support for memory cards.

The battery capacity seems to be 2900 mAh. Hope it's not a typo. The predecessors had 1900 mAh. By the standards of ink devices, the battery is huge.

The reader knows how to be a player. There is no speaker, but you can connect something either via Type-C or via Bluetooth.

There is Wi-Fi, though single-band. Some browser is installed, but I strongly doubt that you will use it often.

Available from February 10th.
