Retro computer Spectrum placed in an audio cassette

Raspberry Pi MagPi magazine has an interestingan article about Stuart Brand. An amateur engineer on his weekend decided to connect two incompatible devices: an audio cassette case and the inside of a 1982 ZX Spectrum computer.

Take a look at the photo and guess where the system unit is:

It is unlikely that anyone who did not know would point to the keyboard.

The device was small, but Brand decided to further reduce the system unit.

According to the engineer, he wanted to improve his skills in electronics, setting himself such a difficult task.

The man used the items that first came to hand: a sheet of scrap metal, a Dremel (power tool), needle files and sandpaper.

Due to limited space, Stewart usedRaspberry Pi Zero W board. Naturally, there were tricks to increase the speed of the system, for example, a plastic plate was used to safely overclock the processor, which allowed the Zero W to work faster. Also on the design there are audio and video outputs.

Brand uses the resulting system unit as a portable device, which he can connect to the screen at any time and play retro games.

The creator himself notes that he does not usesketches and does not think over some schemes before taking on a project. However, this is still not a complete improvisation, in the later stages of the assembly, Brand uses a paper mock-up to make sure that all the parts fit the size.
