It is planned that it will become another form of money in addition to the cash and non-cash ruble. The issuer and operator of the digital ruble platform is the Central Bank, while clients open wallets and conduct transactions through them through financial institutions. At the moment, as Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia, said at the Finopolis forum, already 15 credit institutions are participating in testing the digital ruble.

“We have 15 banks in the pilot, 10 banks alreadyhave developed their mobile apps and are testing the customer journey with us,” she said. The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, said at the end of April that the digital ruble project is one of the priorities and is already being tested with banks. In 2023, the regulator will start piloting digital ruble settlements in the real economy and expects to use it in international settlements, she noted.
