you know, since the abbreviation GWM stands forlike Great Wall Motors. This is one of the largest Chinese automakers, which is well known to us through the Haval brand, as well as the new Tank brand. Some time ago, Great Wall cars were also presented on the market, but now the company has reformatted the brand and called it GWM in the American manner. If for Haval the automaker gave the segment of mass crossovers, under the Tank brand they began to produce premium frame SUVs, then for GWM they allocated the segment of pickups. The latter is quite logical, since the manufacturer focuses here not only on the local market, but also wants to conquer the world stage with its pickups, so the name was chosen correctly. Moreover, one of the first representatives of the updated brand received a rather simple and memorable name Poer (the Chinese beat the word Power in this way). And the next pickup model, which will enter our market very soon, will be called GWM Poer KingKong.

Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motorsfor the first year it has been selling its pickups on our market, but since 2022, the concern’s business in this direction has clearly improved. The small niche occupied by the pickup truck segment in Russia has completely washed out, the official sales of such cars from Mitsubishi, Toyota, Isuzu have stopped, and it turns out that today there is only one Great Wall left here. Until recently, two pickups were presented in the company's lineup, these are the GWM Wingle 7 and Poer, but the first one was withdrawn from sale, so until the GWM Poer KingKong enters the market, the regular Poer remains the only option available.

Model GWM Poer is a large brutal pickup,which, in my opinion, is made to a greater extent with an eye on the American market. The vehicle length is 5403 mm, height is 1886 mm, width is 1934 mm (more than Japanese competitors), and gross weight is 3 tons. The latter is not very good for use in the city, since, for example, in Moscow there are many places with a restriction on the passage of cars weighing more than 2.5 tons. By the way, if I'm not mistaken, at the start of sales, according to the documents, the gross weight of the pickup truck was 2,450 kg, but after testing at the NAMI training ground, these data were changed to 3,070 kg. Another point is that, according to the documents, Poer is registered as a truck and, accordingly, the tax on it will be calculated at a different rate.

Visually, the pickup looks interesting.Smooth lines of the front end, a huge chrome grille and high-quality high-set full LED headlights, which show themselves well at night, bright and concentrated beam illuminating the road. In addition, the high position of the headlights allows them to stay clean longer in the winter. Behind, we have a standard open pickup body, with a chrome roll bar at the cab and with large LED taillights placed vertically along the edges from the side. So at first glance you can’t say that we have a Chinese car in front of us, rather an American or Japanese. In addition, there is not the standard Great Wall emblem ahead, but either a comma or the letter Q, which is somewhat confusing.

Most of the plastic used is hard, but attention is diverted from it by bright accents, so there is not even a desire to feel everything around. In general, the materials are chosen correctly, visually they look expensive and pleasing to the eye. The assembly is also at a good level, and on the go you do not have any extraneous sounds in the cabin.

A person will comfortably sit behind the wheel of the GWM Poeralmost any height and complexion. The only thing that tall people will miss is the steering wheel adjustment for reach, for some reason the manufacturer made only the height adjustment of the steering column. The front seats are comfortable, moderately hard, wide enough, with pronounced lateral support, and besides, they come with electric adjustments. The only pity is that there is no adjustable lumbar support. In terms of visibility from the driver's seat, you can only complain about slightly wide racks, behind which you can not notice a pedestrian or other vehicles, so you need to be careful. And so, the side mirrors are large and give good visibility, everything is also perfectly visible through the salon mirror.

If the car is planned to be used for daily trips, then it makes sense to purchase at least a soft awning for the cargo compartment, which will facilitate operation in the winter, and it will always be easier for you to transport the same purchases. A pickup truck can take on board almost a ton of cargo, more precisely 975 kg, and the rear suspension here is spring dependent, with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers.

In terms of electronic equipment, peaks from GWM are verynot bad. There is a media system with a 9-inch touch screen, which, however, is not very high resolution, and even the picture is a little faded. But on the other hand, the response from the display is good, the system itself does not slow down, and, most importantly, it supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, all only by wire. Support for both platforms is a plus, as the rest of the media system has the simplest options. The audio system in the car is not the best, but not particularly bad, it consists of six speakers: 2 tweeters and 4 standard ones.

Moreover, heating even at the maximum, in my opinion, works somehow weakly. Another thing is the heating of the steering wheel, which is turned on by a dedicated key on the steering wheel itself, quickly and completely warming up the entire surface. For rear passengers, only two deflectors with the ability to adjust flows are available.

In terms of comfort, GWM Poer pleasantly surprised me.It is quite quiet in it, only on the highway aerodynamic noise penetrates into the cabin, even the tractor sound of a diesel engine is not heard here. Suspension perfectly fulfills the passage of small, medium and the largest irregularities. But when you hit potholes and ledges with sharp edges or strongly protruding speed bumps, it will shake so much that everything inside turns over.

In Russia, a pickup truck is presented with only one 2liter diesel engine 4D20M (own development of GWM) with a capacity of 150 hp. (deformed for our market), with 400 Nm of torque already at 1500 rpm. The box here is an eight-speed automatic with a torque converter manufactured by ZF, as well as an all-wheel drive system with a leading rear and connected front axles.

The engine-box pair is well tuned, and150 HP for such a car, it turns out to be quite enough, and even the box works smoothly and quickly shifts to the desired gear. On a pickup truck, it is easy to stay in city traffic, and there are no particular difficulties on the highway, except that at cruising speed there is already a lack of power. A large pickup truck handles quite well for its dimensions, it is absolutely not sensitive to the track, and it goes through the snow porridge like a tractor. For off-road, it is possible to lock the differential, but in easy mode, you can select one of the available driving modes, where the car's electronics will come to your aid. Yes, the ground clearance of the Poer is 232mm and its minimum value is 191mm. The approach angle is 27 degrees, the departure angle is 25, and the fording depth is 500 mm.

GWM Poer consumes about 10 - 10.5 liters of fuel per 100 km in urban mode, which is even less than the declared 10.9 liters per hundred.

GWM Poer price for today starts at 3,499000 rubles, and the top-end equipment, as we have on the test, will cost 3,749,000 rubles. For a large pickup truck, which is distinguished by a comfortable interior and good content, in today's conditions this is quite an adequate price, especially considering that now it has no competitors on the market for official sale.
