Elon Musk has completed the construction of The Boring Company tunnels. When is the opening?

In 2016, the well-known Elon Musk foundedThe Boring Company. The goal of this organization is to dig underground tunnels to move cars from one point to another at a speed of about 200 kilometers per hour. The cars are planned to be placed on electric sleds, so that during a high-speed trip, drivers can relax and not worry about anything. The company recently successfully completed the digging of tunnels under the Las Vegas Convention Center, which covers an area of more than 180,000 square meters. Two routes with a length of 1,300 meters allow you to quickly move between the two ends of the exhibition and business district. Earlier, the company announced that it would complete the construction of the tunnels by the end of January 2021, and indeed did it on time. Elon Musk is already ready to hold the opening ceremony, and it promises to be very unusual. The entrepreneur wants to host a post-apocalyptic party because he's a longtime fan of the Fallout video games.

The Boring Tunnel in Las Vegas

Elon Musk's next unusual venturetold Business Insider. The tunnels under Las Vegas are already ready to go and the entrepreneur is eager to open his brainchild to everyone. But this must be done solemnly, with the participation of many guests. Only because of the restrictions set to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the organization of large parties is not yet possible. Despite the fact that earlier Elon Musk opposed quarantine and assured that there was no need to panic because of the spread of the virus, he is ready to wait for the weakening of the measures taken. The entrepreneur began to speak more carefully about the coronavirus and be more tolerant of the measures being taken after he himself had been ill in a mild form.

Elon Musk used to be skeptical about the coronavirus, but now his attitude has clearly changed

Elon Musk spoke about the completion of construction inon his Twitter, posting a photo of him standing at the entrance to the tunnel with his sons. Earlier, he mentioned many times that he is very fond of games in the Fallout universe. Regular readers of our site clearly do not need to explain what it is. But if you suddenly do not know, I will only say that the action of the games takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Elon Musk wants to open up tunnels during a party in the style of these games. How it will look in reality is still unknown. It can be assumed that visitors will have to come in appropriate clothes, and they will be offered Nuka-Cola - the main drink of the Fallout world. Personally, I really hope that the event will be broadcast live, it would be interesting to watch all this.

Elon Musk is a big fan of science fiction, so it's not surprising that he loves the Fallout universe too.

So far, The Boring has madeonly two tunnels. The work took about a year. Digging of the tunnels began around September 2019. In May 2020, the digging was completed and in the following months, employees were engaged in interior decoration and installation of all necessary equipment. In the future, Elon Musk intends to connect all key areas of Las Vegas with underground routes. Only when these works will be completed is not yet known. Today's world is very unpredictable, so it is simply impossible to look far ahead with full confidence.

The Boring Tunnel in California

It should be noted that these are not the first tunnels.Boring Company. First, construction was carried out in the Californian city of Horton, where the headquarters of SpaceX is located. The choice fell on this settlement, because no permits were required to dig tunnels there. The 2.3-kilometer route was laid directly under the headquarters. The opening took place in December 2018, and it was initially reported that everyone will be able to ride through the tunnel for free.

It turned out that in order to reduce the cost of construction, Elon Musk's team did not throw out the dug soil, but made bricks from it. In the end, each block cost the company only 10 cents, that is, about 7 rubles at the current exchange rate. But today the cost of one building brick reaches 12 rubles.
