Announcement. Xiaomi 14 Ultra – a photo flagship? With titanium and satellite communications?

Xiaomi held a big event in Chinaa gala event during which the world was shown a “flat” (i.e. without a flexible screen) super-flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Which logically replaces last year's Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Let's start with the cameras, because they are the main ones here. Or not? Of course, we don’t believe in the Dxomark ratings, but last year’s Ultra only had 23rd place there.

Frontal. Something with a resolution of 32 MP. Uninteresting.

There were four 50 MP rear cameras, and they remain the same.

  • Main – OIS, Sony LYT-900 f/1.63-f/4.0
  • Telephoto periscope - OIS, 5X, Sony IMX858
  • Telephoto – OIS, 3.2X, Sony IMX858
  • Wide Angle – Sony IMX858

Apparently, only the main camera was “touched”.There was a Sony IMX989 sensor (f/1.9-4.0). Now a Sony LYT-900 has been installed instead. Also inch, but more modern. The rest of the cameras remained on the same sensor from last year with plus or minus the same characteristics.

Iron. Who would doubt that. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. As usual, a lot of words have been said about the cooling system...

The screen became a little brighter, but otherwise the characteristics did not change. LTPO AMOLED with refresh rate up to 120Hz. Diagonal 6.73″ (109 cm²), high resolution 1440×3200 (521 ppi).

The battery has grown a little - from 5000 mAh to 5300 mAh. Wireless charging has accelerated from 50 to 80 W. Wired charging remained the same – 90 W.

Among the interesting goodies, it is worth noting protection from water and dust according to IP68 class. And support for calls via Tiantong satellites.

About money.

The three basic varieties of Xiaomi 14 Ultra will cost ¥6499 (₽83,200, $900), ¥6999 (₽89,600, $969) and ¥7799 (₽99,900, $1,080) for the 12+256, 16+512 and 16+1024 GB versions, respectively.

Plus, there will also be a Titanium Special Edition on sale. With a titanium case, it’s clear that a bad example is contagious. How much will it cost? ¥8799 (₽113000, $1220) for the same 16+1024 GB.

At this point a slight misunderstanding arises. Is titanium really so expensive that they ask for an extra thousand yuan for it?

This is not directly readable on the official website.(or I just didn’t find it), but there is a suspicion that only the Titanium version will support satellite communications. It’s just that today Xiaomi released at the same time a titanium version of the Xiaomi 14 Pro smartphone with added support for satellites. And it’s exactly a thousand more expensive than the version without satellites.
