Announcement. Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro – the debut of Dimensity 9300 and the fight against chromatic aberration

Today we will learn another unnecessary word. "Apochromat".

Vivo introduced a couple of expensive smartphones in its native China
Vivo X100 and
Vivo X100 Pro.

Vivo X100 Pro

And - let's start with something delicious - as one of thechips for Vivo X100 Pro are stated to have a “Zeiss APO” periscope telephoto camera. What kind of animal? Have you heard about chromatic aberration? Did not hear? Happy people. And they, these aberrations, exist. And developers of optical systems are trying to reduce them. How? What's the difference between you and me? Just know that there are apochromatic optical systems where such aberrations are minimal.
Well, Vivo decided to go to their new dearadd an additional nameplate to the smartphone. Like, we have very few of these evil aberrations here, so we write APO in large letters, you learn a new term and go in orderly rows to buy those smartphones with these letters.

And what? Are competitors in their televisions really bad with aberrations? I don't think so. Although, of course, we’ll wait and see what respected observers say.

Let's continue about the cameras, since we started. The front panels of both smartphones seem to be unremarkable. 32 MP each.

The Vivo X100 Pro has three rear cameras, 50+50+50 MP.

  • 50 MP – main camera with a very large inch Sony IMX989 sensor. If anything, it was also used in last year’s Vivo X90 Pro and X90 Pro+.
  • 50 MP is the same APO telephoto with 4.3X optical zoom. The sensor is not named, but the size is known – 1/2″. Like the main camera, it has optical stabilization.
  • 50 MP – wide-angle camera with a painfully familiar 1/2.76″ sensor.

The Vivo X100 has, of course, simpler cameras. 50+64+50 MP. Same composition, but no Zeiss APO.

  • 50 MP – main camera. Here we have the debut of the Sony IMX920 (1/1.49″) sensor.
  • 64 MP is also a telephoto periscope, but simpler. 3X. Optical stabilization is also available.
  • 50 MP – wide-angle camera. I suspect that it is exactly the same as that of my older brother.

Vivo X100 – same colors, same design

Iron. Here we have another debut. The debut of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset. A flagship piece of hardware whose mission is to compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. And, by the way, this is the first chipset that supports the fastest (currently) mobile memory LPDDR5T. In AnTuTu, it looks like we are waiting for two million parrots.

Both smartphones have additionalspecialized chips for better processing of pictures and videos. But if the X100 uses a chip we’ve already seen called V2, then the X100 Pro uses something more modern called V3.

Memory. Lots of memory.12 or 16 GB of RAM, from 256 to 1024 GB of storage (and without support for memory cards, of course). Ultra-fast LPDDR5T memory is not used in all versions of smartphones, but only in the oldest ones.

The screens appear to be identical. LTPO AMOLED with a frequency of up to 120 Hz. Large – 6.78″ (111 cm²). With a high resolution of 453 ppi (1260x2800) and an indecent peak brightness of 3000 nits.

The batteries are different.5000 mAh with super-fast charging 120 W for the younger smartphone. And 5400 mAh for the firmware. At the same time, the firmware’s charging is even a little slower, “only” 100 W. But there is wireless charging (50 W).

Both smartphones have IP68 protection against water and dust. Both know about the existence of Wi-Fi 7. Both lack the LTE Band 20 we need.

USB, of course, Type-C. But the versions are suddenly different. The Vivo X100 Pro uses pleasantly fast Type-C 3.2 Gen.1. And the X100 only has Type-C 2.0.

And about money. The sign is in front of you. From the relatively reasonable ¥3999 (₽50,400, $548) for the younger version of the Vivo X100 to the invigorating ¥5999 (₽75,700, $821) for the older version of the Vivo X100 Pro.
