According to the press service of Roskosmos,the Russian automatic station switched to an off-design orbit and collided with the surface of the Earth's satellite. An official statement about the fate of Luna-25 appeared on the website of the state corporation.
"According to the flight programautomatic station "Luna-25", on August 19, it was planned to issue an impulse to form its pre-landing elliptical orbit. At about 14:57 Moscow time, communication with the automatic station was interrupted. The measures taken on August 19 and 20 to search for Luna-25 and get in touch with it did not yield results, ”the Roscosmos press service said.
According to reports, the transition to "emergency"orbit occurred due to the deviation of the actual parameters of the impulse from the calculated ones. As a result, the space station ceased to exist, colliding with the surface of the moon. A specially formed interdepartmental commission will deal with the issues of clarifying the reasons for the loss of Luna-25.
