What smart glasses can you buy right now?

We constantly discuss smart watches, headphones, household appliances, but almost never talk about glasses, but

and there progress rushes like an arrow. Reviews come out from time to time, but all this is so, in the format “but there is such a thing.” In this collection, I propose to take a broad look at the entire clearing.

Wearable electronics, to which they belongsmart glasses is considered one of the most promising categories, because in theory it should offer an even greater level of comfort and involvement (you can forget this smartphone at home, and watch, rings or the same glasses are always on you). But as is often the case with popular destinations, everyone wants to participate, often offering low-quality crafts.

Only sound

The most "stupid" smart glasses are glasses that have added headphones and built in Bluetooth.

Here is an example of the most primitive construction.Either one earpiece clings to the glasses to work in headset mode, or a pair to listen to music. The glasses are connected to the phone via Bluetooth technology. The charge is enough for 6-7 hours of music. Such nonsense costs about 1.5 thousand rubles.

This is the most common type of smart glasses.Embedding headphones and adding Bluetooth is elementary. So manufacturers are experimenting with form and presentation. There are countless designs and formats.

A slightly more advanced option is to add software to the glasses or a button to call the voice assistant. For such glasses they already want a little more money. For example, here is the model. These are chameleon glasses.

Even the pictures from the promotional page hint at how lousy this product is. Glasses crookedly drawn in a photo editor.

I decided to mention this model because itoffers a different approach to sound transmission. The glasses themselves have built-in speakers! The glasses support Bluetooth 5.0, the charge lasts for 6-7 hours. In the comments, people write that the sound quality is surprisingly good. So in theory, this option can fit for going to the beach.

Glasses with built-in Bluetooth audiooccupy more than half of the total supply on the market. However, one should not think that there is only low-grade consumer goods. Large and well-known companies are also trying their hand. Apparently, based on the principle that product development is cheap, so why not do it.

For example, Amazon made their version of glasses undercalled Echo Frames. The purpose of the glasses is to control the voice assistant Alexa. There are just clear glasses to wear at home, there are tinted lenses. As I understand it, you can order plain glass, doctor's prescription diopters, or a model with blue light filtering. Of course, there are different styles of frames. The battery lasts either for 4 hours of continuous playback of content, or for 14 hours of wearing in active mode. If I wore glasses and used Alexa, I might even buy one for myself at home. Although the glasses are useless without a smart speaker, that is, it turns out that their purpose is not to raise your voice when referring to the speaker.

If we talk about the mastodons of the sound industry,Bose Frames Tenor glasses immediately come to mind. These are glasses with open speakers. At the same time, Bose promises that while the user will enjoy unprecedented sound quality, others will hear almost nothing. Glasses are of good quality. You can buy interchangeable lenses for them. Plus, a variety of frame options are available.

For just $150, you can enjoy cool sound and stylish glasses. In Russia, unfortunately, they ask for almost 30 thousand rubles for glasses. And, of course, glasses are not worth that kind of money.

Finally, as a pair of compromise optionsbetween price and quality, I would suggest paying attention to glasses from Anker. Anker stars are not enough from the sky, but they usually make a quality product. The glasses are called Soundcore by Anker. Their highlight is that they look neat and their legs come unfastened. The speakers are in the legs.

Another, even more compromise option is,Of course, the products of xiaomists. Xiaomi Smart Glasses Zenph Wind Audio Sunglasses sell for 7 thousand rubles. Everything is the same, but the legs do not come unfastened. The no-name Chinese products of Anker and Xiaomi win with a quality guarantee. And I'm not talking about sound, but about lenses. If it is stated that UV400, then you don’t have to worry. However, in most of these glasses, the lenses are made of plastic, and plastic filters all UV rays by default. This is not glass for you to keep your eyes peeled for.

Perhaps I will separately mention that there is another category"glasses for gamers" (and just computer people). For example, below is a model from Razer for gamers. Lenses block, in addition to UV400, also blue light (and one does not include the other?). Plus, the glasses have built-in speakers, a microphone and a voice assistant. Razer promises high quality, minimal audio latency (60ms). In short, this is an online gaming headset that will help protect your eyes. Office workers who work remotely may also appreciate it. Like, the eyes won't dry out as much. One battery charge is enough for 5 hours of operation. In the West, glasses are sold for 10 thousand rubles, in Russia such a model can be bought for only 15 thousand rubles. And this is already somehow expensive ... In my opinion, in general, a fair price is something around 7 thousand rubles.

The model from Razer took as a standard of qualityproduct. Of course, the market is full of other manufacturers offering glasses with lenses for working at a computer. I thought maybe I should buy something like this. If someone uses “computer glasses” (regular or smart), then tell us in the comments (you can use specific models, advice, which lenses are the best), since I have been sure all my life that such models (as well as glasses for drivers) It's all marketing, shamanism and superstition.

Let's add more videos

The next category is glasses that havesound, but decided to add video as well. I do not recommend buying such options according to gray schemes or bringing them from abroad. Due to video cameras, glasses, if they are not officially certified, can be classified as spy equipment. And investigators are terribly fond of such cases, because 100% is a “stick”. So you have to be careful, otherwise I bought glasses and drove off for several years.

One of the most famous glasses in this category inRussia is Ray Ban Stories Wayfarer. Eldar did a review (link will be below). A feature of the glasses is in the built-in cameras, with which you can take photos and videos.

The cameras look like this:

You can record photos and videos or voicecommand, or a button on the bow. The review has examples of photos and videos. It turns out well. This option is best suited for tourists or athletes, as it allows you to shoot in the first person. In Russia, glasses are sold for 40 thousand rubles. And it's very expensive. On the official website of Ray Ban, the price of points is $ 240. And that's fair value. The site offers to install lenses, taking into account the medical prescriptions of a particular buyer.

Review of Ray-Ban smart glasses and Facebook* Stories - hidden and not so shooting

The first smart glasses from Ray-Ban and Facebook* - take photos and videos, can talk and replace wireless headphones. Allowed in Russia, despite all the speculation.

For example, similar glasses are offered by the social networksnapchat. The glasses, called Snapchat Spectacles 2, allow you to record 10-30 second videos and take photos. One charge is enough for 70 videos. Although the glasses are made for Snapchat, you can upload videos to any social networks.

There are many frame options. These glasses were good because of the balance of price and quality. They were selling for less than $200. They were replaced by Snapchat's much more expensive $380 Spectacles 3!

The highlight of the new glasses is that they allow you to take 3D photos and record video with a resolution of 1216 x 1216 pixels at a frame rate of 60 fps (photo 1.7 by 1.7).

In addition, the glasses have built-in GPS and, for some reason, GLONASS, an array of 4 microphones, Wi-Fi 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, a built-in 4 GB storage, which is enough for 1200 3D photos or 100 3D videos.

The glasses look, of course, deliberately catchy.Weigh almost 60 grams. I decided to tell you, because, as I understand it, these are the most advanced eyeglasses in terms of photo-video shooting. Cons, of course, in the price and the square format of shooting photos and videos.

Unfortunately, I can't find any more glasses of thisa format that combines style and quality. Of course, there are many options, but everything else is noname. And Ray Ban and Snapchat glasses in Russia are still sold on Yandex.Market. So, apparently, you can buy without fear of landing.

Augment reality

So we got to more or less real smart glasses. Augmented reality glasses have a built-in LED screen.

Such glasses are available from various manufacturers from Lenovo.to TCL. By the way, we had a review of glasses from TCL. However, the most advanced model in this category is Nreal Air. These glasses have the highest resolution, the best indicators of brightness and color. Resolution 3840 by 1080 pixels, brightness 400 nits, color depth 8 bits. The glasses have built-in speakers, there is a sensor that tracks the position of the head, and a 5 MP camera is built in. A full charge is enough for 5 hours of work.

You need to connect your smartphone to the glasses. The glasses are able to understand by the position of the eyes which application the user wants to run. Check out reviews of these glasses on YouTube. The quality of the virtual screen will definitely amaze you.

In fact, such glasses are a personalcinema or something like that. Relatively speaking, you launched a movie or a game on the plane and you rejoice (control the game from the screen in your smartphone, using it as a gamepad). Since the LED screens are directly in front of the eyes, it should create the feeling of watching a 75-inch TV.

The main disadvantage of such glasses is that they are connected to the smartphone via a wire, which immediately kills all the magic and reduces most of the use cases to a minimum.

Plus, these glasses are not really smart.you name it, since they just offer a screen right in front of your eyes. However, as soon as it is possible to transmit a picture without wires, the number of scenarios will increase. Glasses will be a complete addition to the smartphone. And even the basic eye tracking is enough to switch music or open notifications.

And here is a link to notes about similar glasses from TCL. They are inferior to Nreal in picture quality.

Dumb but useful

I would like to finish with the simplest, but, apparently, the most useful. They are called Ampere Dusk. It's just a button that can change the lens tint level.

However, you can connect your glasses to the app by manually adjusting the lens tint using the dial. Unfortunately, lenses cannot become completely transparent.

Speakers are built into the temples of the glasses, soBluetooth can answer calls and listen to music. Contact Google and Siri. The glasses come with a charging case. The advantage of these glasses is that one charge is enough for 7 days, if only the level of lens tint is adjusted.

Despite the fact that the glasses are cool, but the price is extremely unpleasant - 200 euros. The product is new, so it is not clear whether the outbids will bring them to Russia and at what price. Probably not.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, there is still no trulysmart glasses. Bluetooth is not bad, but I would also like the glasses to be able to count the number of steps, monitor heart rate, stress levels, analyzing pupils. Need, of course, and more options for augmented reality. Not only broadcasting the screen of a smartphone, but independently displaying some information such as a map, etc.

Obviously, such technologies will become availableas the manufacturing process decreases, when more and more transistors and batteries can be hidden in the temples of glasses. There is no need to talk about Google Glass, because it was and remains an experimental product for geeks that normal people will not wear all the time.

So far, Ampere's Dusk-type goggles are the clearest option, offering a simple but practical feature. On the street I made the glasses darker, in the room lighter.

Perhaps it would not be a mistake to say that so farthe niche of smart glasses is free. Despite the abundance of options, no one has come up with the ultimate product that everyone wants to buy and wear. And, probably, we will see a full-fledged flowering of this category in 5 years, when technologies grow up.

Well, behind the scenes were "professional" smartglasses. These include Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2, Microsoft Hololens or ThinkReality A3 Smart Glasses. There are also quite a few such glasses, but these are solutions for work tasks. Just like that, no one will go for a walk down the street in them.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2
