Tesla launches Model Y body foundry

Tesla is constantly improvingthe production process of electric vehicles, making it simpler and less costly. Announced a few days ago, the bodywork equipment for the Model Y has begun work at the Fremont plant. The company's official Weibo website says it is "the world's largest foundry."

For the first time about the company's plans to useTesla CEO Elon Musk told about innovative methods of molding the body of the Model Y electric SUV back in April. According to the businessman, the technology will receive only two cast parts as a result of the use of technology, instead of 70 units in Model 3. Musk also announced his intention to launch the world's largest casting machine, which allows casting the entire rear of the body.

After purchasing a foundry withgigantic dimensions, it was decided to mount it in an open space and only after that erect a canopy over it. The company’s message focuses on the fact that the developers are constantly improving not only the software for electric vehicles, but also improving the design of the car and the technology of manufacturing components.

The multidirectional casting technology waspatented by Tesla last year. Currently, only bodies for the Model Y are cast, but in the future, the application of the technology can be extended to other cars produced by the company. These are popular electric vehicles such as Model 3, Model S and Model X. The head of Tesla recently announced that production of the first German Model Y crossovers, scheduled for 2021, will be a “revolution in bodywork”.

Body parts produced on the casting machine will go to a new subframe assembly line and a production line built specifically for the new equipment.
