New MediaTek chips supporting 5G technology outperform Snapdragon 855 in performance (3 photos)

New line of chipsets providing supportnetworks with 5G technology, under the general name Dimensity, is represented by MediaTek. The series is launched by the Dimensity 1000 5G processor, which will be manufactured using 7-nm technologies.

Describing the technical parameters of new itemsthe developers, first of all, point to the high energy efficiency of the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G, which surpasses all single-chip systems (SoC) currently manufactured by SoC. Another advantage of the chip was the integration of the 5G module directly into the processor, which leads to space savings in wearable devices.

MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G usesaggregation of two 5G carrier channels, which will allow devices with such a chip to work with two SIM cards in 5G networks. Various modifications of 5G + 5G, 4G + 5G and 5G + 4G will enter the market. When transmitting data, the speed will be up to 4.7 Gbit / s, and when receiving - up to 2.5 Gbit / s (5G frequency is less than 6 GHz). The chipset also works with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 standards.

The 8-core Dimensity 1000 processor hastwo clusters of 4 cores. For the tasks requiring a large expenditure of resources, 4 Cortex A77 cores (2.6 GHz) are intended, and standard tasks serve 4 Cortex A55 cores (2.0 GHz). As the GPU used Mali-G77 MC9. Z, and the six-core APU 3.0 is responsible for working with artificial intelligence. The chipset works with LPDD4x standard memory with a total capacity of up to 16 GB in 4-channel mode.

Processor performance Dimensity 1000,estimated by Antutu tests scored more than 480 thousand points, and in the GeekBench 4.2 test - 12 thousand points, which is almost equivalent to Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+.

However, developers assure that Wi-Fi support6 provides 38% faster data transfer rates, while reducing power consumption by 40%, compared to the Wi-Fi 5 standard used in Snapdragon 855+.

The novelty supports GPS navigation systems,Glonass, Beidou, Galileo. It is possible to work with DisplayPort, H.264 / 265 / VP9 / AV1, Multi-frame Video HDR and 4K video with a frequency of 60. The image is processed by a five-core digital signal processor that provides photo processing in 80MP resolution with a frequency of 24 frames per second.

The first mobile devices equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G will hit the market as early as 2020.
