Driving license in Russia is planned to be replaced with a QR code

Digital technologies are gradually embracing allspheres of life of a modern person. In the near future, high technologies will make changes in the relationship between drivers and GBDB inspectors. According to the planned innovations proposed by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, the driver will be able to show the inspector a QR code instead of the vehicle registration certificate and driver's license through a special application on a smartphone.

Deputy Minister Oleg, representative of the Ministry of Digital Industry of RussiaKachanov explained that in agreement with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this year in the four "most digital" constituent entities of the Russian Federation, an official experiment will be launched to test the effectiveness of using the QR code.

New rules will allow the driver not to carry with himoriginals of driver's license and vehicle registration certificate. In the event of an inspection, the inspector will be able to obtain all the required information from the mobile application from the driver's smartphone.
The QR code will be read from the screensmartphone by an inspector using a special device. The rationale for the advantages of such an approach, according to Kachanov, is the fact that a modern person always carries a smartphone with him, while people think of “paper” documents secondarily, and often simply forget to take them with them.
