Vivobook Slate cheaper than Microsoft's latestSurface Pro 9, with a keyboard and stylus included. However, other characteristics of the device are not impressive, so the Asus laptop is not suitable even for basic tasks.

    Design and features

The appearance of the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is quite simple, and not in the best way - not much different from many other inexpensive tablets.

Nevertheless, the case seems to be reliable, made of plastic, glass and aluminum. The device weighs only 780 grams, although when you connect the keyboard cover it will become much heavier.

There is only one color for sale - black, there are no bright design elements on the tablet.

There is a metal strip at the top of the back panel, which contributes to a more comfortable grip, although the Wow the World inscription seems superfluous here.

    OLED display

Of course, the display is the main advantage of the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED.

This is a colorful 13.3 inch OLED touch panelFull HD resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. Even in this price segment, manufacturers are more likely to install LCD screens, but Asus chose OLED and did not fail.

The image is characterized by rich colors and deep blacks, making the device ideal for content consumption.

sRGB color space coverage is98%, AdobeRGB - 74%, and DCI-P3 - 73%, which is quite good. But there are problems with brightness: it reaches only 340 nits, which is clearly not enough for outdoor use.

It also interferes with the fact that the display is glossy and reflects sunlight. But the resolution of 1920x1080 pixels provides high detail, and the ratio of 16:9 seems to be optimal, although it is falling out of fashion.

    Keyboard case and stylus

In its usual form, the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a tablet to which you can connect a keyboard.

After ego, the device will turn into a laptop. It is important that the keyboard case and stylus are included, as these accessories often have to be purchased separately. The case provides additional protection to the gadget, and also serves as a stand, although there is a built-in stand on the back panel.

The keyboard connects to the Vivobook 13 Slate via connectors on the underside of the case, so you don't have to keep Bluetooth on all the time.

Since the display is large, the keysrather big, and a stroke of 1.4 mm allows you to comfortably type text. Yes, the Vivobook Slate cannot be compared with full-fledged laptops, but it is suitable for most everyday tasks. The only thing missing from the keys is backlighting, which makes typing in the dark more difficult.

The keyboard has a high-quality rubbera coating that is pleasant to rest your palms on. There's also a large glass trackpad that supports Windows 11 gestures so you don't need a mouse. However, here you can use the touch screen.

Included is the Asus Pen 2 stylus, whichuseful for those who like to draw or take notes. It has the same 4096 levels of pressure as most modern styluses, although the lag is quite long. There is some time between pressing and displaying on the screen, which is inconvenient. The stylus is charged via USB-C, and Asus promises more than 140 hours of battery life.

    Cameras and other features

On the back of the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, the quality of which is only suitable for shooting documents.

But the 5 MP front camera showsbest results - it is capable of shooting 1080p video and is well suited for video calls. Although the bezels around the Vivobook Slate's display are quite thick, making the design feel a little dated, there would be enough room not only for the camera, but also for the forward-firing speakers. But Asus did not install them here.

The user can unlock via Windows Hello technology, although it is safer to use the fingerprint scanner in the power key.

Since the thickness of the case is 7.9 mm, space forThere aren't many outlets here. You'll have two USB-C, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The set is not bad, but not enough for use in laptop mode, so I advise you to buy a USB hub in advance.

    Software

The reviewed Vivobook 13 Slate OLED runs Windows 11 Home with S mode, but you can switch to normal.

This means that you will not be limited toapps from the Microsoft Store. The operating system here is the same as on the Microsoft Surface models - there are no big differences, like different Android shells. Asus has added only MyAsus and ScreenXpert programs, McAfee antivirus and its own wallpapers.

You can not use all this, because the OS is herepractically "clean". Windows 11 is still designed for keyboard and mouse, but Microsoft is constantly improving the experience with the operating system on tablets. Working on Windows through pressing the touch screen has become much more convenient than before.

To view Apple iPad 2022 content (10generation) will still be the best choice, but Windows 11 is more suitable for general tasks. Users after Windows 10 will have to get used to some of the features, but it's not difficult.

Vivobook 13 Slate should receive all updatesWindows 11 for as long as this operating system is supported - that is, for many more years. Yes, future updates will come faster on newer devices, but you won’t have to wait long here either.

    Iron productivity

If you're familiar with the laptop processor market, the specs of the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED might be a bit of a surprise.

Intel Pentium Silver N6000 installed here, which came out back in 2021 and is weaker than the Core i3. Usually such a chipset can be found in budget laptops, but for the Vivobook Slate price segment, this is a poor choice.

An integrated Intel UHD Graphics graphics card is responsible for the graphics, and RAM can be 4 or 8 GB.

This is not enough even for fast executionbasic tasks, not to mention games and video editing. Applications open for a long time, there are lags when switching between them, and working in several programs at the same time seriously loads the hardware.

Performance tests give depressingresults: in the multi-core mode of GeekBench 5, the test model has only 1965 points, and in the graphics 3D Mark (Night Raid) - 3621 points. This is worse than most similar devices in the price segment, only the Microsoft Surface Go 3 has similar results.

The initial build of Vivobook Slate has only 64 GBbuilt-in eMMC memory, although you can take versions with a faster 128 or 256 GB SSD. Of course, with the development of cloud storage and external hard drives, a small amount of memory is unlikely to be the biggest problem, but competitors have much larger SSD capacities.

    Speakers and sound

Asus decided not to put forward-facing speakers on the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED - they are located on the sides of the device.

There are four stereo speakers with good surround effect and surprisingly high quality. The sound is clear and detailed, and distortion does not appear even at maximum volume.

On the other hand, the bass is clearly not enough, so people's speech sounds best.

Vivobook Slate is good for listening to podcasts and watching YouTube videos. But music lovers should immediately connect wired or wireless headphones.

    Autonomy Asus Vivobook 13 Slate

The Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is equipped with a 50Wh battery, and Asus promises that this should be enough for more than 9 hours of work.

If you watch video in 720p at 80% brightness, the battery will run out in 11 hours. In addition, by default, when the battery level drops to 20%, Windows 11 activates the power saving mode. This should further extend the battery life of the device.

It comes with a 65W USB-C charging adapter.

In 30 minutes, he recovers 45% of energy whenFully charging the battery takes just under two hours. Charging can also be done via external batteries (powerbank), although they must support the USB-C Easy Charge standard.

    Total

At first glance, the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a good alternative to other Windows 2-in-1 devices.

The device has all the necessary accessories included.and a gorgeous OLED display. However, everything is spoiled by weak hardware, which is not suitable even for basic tasks. The Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor is very slow, the integrated Intel UHD Graphics graphics card works with graphics, and 64 GB of internal memory will not be enough for many.

    Should I buy

Vivobook 13 Slate OLED from Asus should be considered only as a tablet for content consumption. It obviously does not cope with more demanding tasks, so it is difficult for me to recommend the model for purchase.
