Design and appearance

The Asus TUF line has always featured gaming-inspired designs, and the TUF Gaming A15 (2022) is no exception.

The body is strong and thick (2.24 cm), the sides are pointed, and the colors are made in dark colors. On the left side are most of the connectors: two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, one of which supports the DisplayPort standard, a full-sized USB 3.2 Gen 1, an HDMI output, a 3.5 mm combo jack and an Ethernet port. The set is large, but there are not enough fast USBs.

For wireless connectivity, there's support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and there's a 720p webcam in the top bezel.

The second full size USB-A can be found on the rightside, it is placed in the middle, which is inconvenient if you use the mouse with your right hand. Unfortunately, there is neither a memory card slot nor a fingerprint scanner.

The build quality of the TUF Gaming A15 is not impressive:the aluminum lid and the plastic surface under the keyboard flex when pressed. The case weighs in at 2.5kg, which isn't too much for a gaming laptop - the model is 500g lighter than the Acer Nitro 5.

Screen and sound

One of the main improvements of the Asus TUF Gaming A15 compared to the previous model was the display.

The laptop version I tested had 15.6-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels, with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The contrast ratio is also high: 1283:1, so the blacks are quite deep. With hue accuracy, everything is also excellent - deltaE is only 0.7, and the coverage of the sRGB color space is 95.7%.

Alas, the screen of the TUF Gaming A15 (2022) has problems with brightness, its maximum value does not exceed 310 nits.

This is enough to use the laptop inindoors, but not for the street, although for a gaming laptop the indicator is not the most critical. But the refresh rate of 165 Hz for competitive gamers may not seem enough - you should choose a build with a panel of 240 or 360 Hz.

The speakers have a high volume and powerful bass, but the upper frequencies sound weak. While playing games and watching movies, it is better to use good headphones.

Keyboard and trackpad

Thanks to the 15.6-inch display on the Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2022), there was a place for both a numeric keypad and a large trackpad.

The keys on the TUF Gaming A15 (2022) are pleasant to press and have a distinct feedback - the keyboard here is better than the Nitro 5.

On the other hand, the buttons are a little wobbly, andThe plastic coating underneath doesn't inspire confidence. The layout also raises questions: the volume keys and arrow keys are too small when Enter has the same height as the others.

There is a backlight, but it is of the same type and is practically not adjustable. The trackpad is large, but the keys are soft and not very comfortable to press - for games I advise you to connect a mouse.

Component performance

The reviewed Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2022) is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H octa-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 4.7 GHz.

The graphics card is Nvidia GeForce.RTX 3060 at 100W with 16GB DDR5 RAM. It also has a 1TB SSD with a read speed of 3145MB/s and a write speed of 2072MB/s.

In the 3D Mark Night Raid test, the RTX 3060 graphics cardscores 49,215 points, which is 10 thousand higher than the Acer Nitro 5 with the same RTX 3060. Far Cry New Dawn at 1080p and Ultra graphics settings produces 87 fps. In Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p, with ray tracing and DLSS, you can expect 65 fps at Ultra graphics settings.

For eSports games, TUF Gaming A15 is also suitable - in Rainbow Six Siege at maximum settings you can count on 234 fps, a screen frequency of 165 Hz is very handy here.

AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor scores 9946 points inGeekBench 5 multi-core mode. For everyday tasks, the performance of the chipset is enough, but for professional work it is better to choose another model.

There are several performance modes, butthey don't work well. Turbo adds a couple of frames per second, but the fans start to make a lot of noise. Windows mode doesn't change anything at all, and Silent caps the frame rate at 60 fps, though there's no noise at all.

As a rule, fan noise is not a problem - they are quieter here than on most gaming laptops. The body doesn't get too hot either.

Battery life Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2022)

TUF Gaming A15 demonstrates surprisingly good battery life - when performing normal tasks.

With a display brightness of 120 nits you can count on 9hours of use on a single charge, and when watching a video, the figure reaches 11 hours. If you want to have a full-time working day, the Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2022) laptop battery will definitely have enough energy.

Of course, games consume battery power.much faster - the corresponding test shows the result in 1 hour 25 minutes. In addition, the frame rate in games is slightly reduced, and it is recommended to connect the laptop to the power supply in advance.
