A Yayagram device has been created to communicate with a 96-year-old "granny" via Telegram (4 photos)

In the conditions of self-isolation caused by globalAs a pandemic, the ability to communicate with older people who are finding it difficult to master new technologies of remote communication is becoming more important than ever. To communicate with his 96-year-old grandmother, Twitter user Manuel Lucio Dallo created an analog physical device that resembles an ancient telephone communicator, but nevertheless allows sending messages in the modern Telegram messenger.

Older people, with few exceptions, preferwork not with new touch technologies and screens, but with physically tactile buttons and switches. This fact prompted Manuel to create an original device called by the inventor Yayagram (Yaya - "granny" in the Castilian dialect).

Yayagram works by analogy with the phones of the beginninglast century, when it was required to connect the cable to the connector associated with a specific addressee. "Granny" Manuel received seven users at once, with whom she can contact via Telegram, by installing a cable in the desired socket of the communicator. At the next stage, press the button and dictate the message to the grandchildren into the microphone. The relative's smartphone will receive a standard voice message in the Telegram messenger.

The answer comes to Yayagram and is printed onthermal printer, similar to those used in cash registers. The grandson chose this method of communication due to the poor hearing of his grandmother, who lives in the city of Burgos, Spain, and has difficulty communicating with her grandchildren using video or telephone.

Yayagram's hardware base runs on a single boardRaspberry Pi 4 computer, uses Python and several third-party software libraries. An inexpensive microphone connects via USB. The resourceful grandson chose Telegram due to its more open source code for developers compared to WhatsApp.
