Ford 2021 F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid pickup truck undergoes unique endurance tests (video)

One of the most popular Ford pickups in the worldThe F-series has been conquering the highways of America and around the world for over seventy years. Ford has recently introduced the PowerBoost Hybrid, a hybrid electric pickup truck. To prove the reliability and high strength, the new products in the company decided to carry out extreme tests and even developed a special test for the PowerBoost Hybrid.

Over the past 70 years, Ford has sold over27.5 million F-series pickup trucks. The popularization of electric vehicles has led to the emergence of a hybrid model. However, the consumer is still skeptical about the innovation, in particular referring to the unreliability and low endurance of electric cars. However, the technical project manager says the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid will change the buyer's perception of the durability of a hybrid that rivals its gasoline and diesel counterparts.

Most of the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid testingsimilar to testing traditional Ford F-series pickups. The 5.5 tonne vehicle demonstrates the ability to drive on steep slopes in high temperature conditions, overcome difficult off-road conditions and withstand operation in extreme weather conditions.

To test the operation of the hybrid system,a special test has been developed to verify the reliability of the 1.5 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery located under the cab floor. Ford has developed a special vibration isolation system for it to protect the battery from vibrations in everyday use. The use of a hybrid system will generate power from 2 kWh to 7.2 kWh when working with the Power Boost power plant.

Testing took place over 82 hours. Ford engineers noted that during this time, an imitation of the full cycle of operation of the gasoline F-150 was carried out. The company has been working on modernizing its Ford F-series pickups for several years. Since 2015, the company has decided to use aluminum for the production of the body and carried out a series of tests proving that such a pickup "will not wrinkle like a tin can." Following the release of the hybrid model, the all-electric, zero-emission F-150 series pickup truck will be launched.
