Google has announced a couple of new smartphones. Its “new flagship” Pixel 5. And the device is a bit simpler, Pixel 4a 5G.

The author who came up with the name for the secondsmartphone, you want to hit something heavy. Or at least sticky. Because with the Pixel 4a smartphone, which is without 5G, the Pixel 4a 5G has little in common to say the least. Well yes. The appearance is similar. And positioning. Since we are with the letter “a”, it means that we are simpler and cheaper, we have fewer buns. That's it, we forgot about the Pixel 4a 4G, or we'll get confused.

Pixel 5 falls short of the flagship title. Pixel 4a 5G - even more so. Let's talk about prices right away. Pixel 5 at the start of sales in the US will cost $ 699 (₽55,100), its younger colleague two hundred cheaper - $ 499 (₽39,300). For comparison, last year's Pixel 4 started at $ 799 (₽62,900).

Curiously, smartphones have a lot in common. The chipset is the same, cameras. So, it seems, if you put devices so far at a price, then put a simpler camera in your little brother, but the chip is weaker. But no. We will reduce the cost in a different way.

In short, the advantages over the Pixel 4a 5G areThe Pixel 5 is next. IP68 water and dust resistant. Screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The body is made of a kind of "recycled aluminum". Better Gorilla Glass 6 vs Gorilla Glass 3. Wireless and reversible wireless charging. More RAM. And there is no normal audio output. Or is the latter not one of the advantages?

Last year's “pre-flagship” Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset with an integrated 5G modem. About three hundred thousand AnTuTu points. Loved by OPPO / Vivo.

128GB UFS 2.1 flash storage. There is no memory card support. RAM 6 GB for the younger, 8 GB for the older.

Screens. Oddly enough, the Pixel 4a 5G is slightly larger. 6.2 ″ versus 6 ″ in Pixel 5. (Pixel 4a, by the way, is smaller than both of them - there is a 5.81 ″ screen). And, yes, compared to many other modern smartphones, all these Pixels are just dwarfs. Matrix - OLED, high resolution, 1080 × 2340 (416 ppi and 430 ppi, respectively). They did not hide the fingerprint scanner under the screen - and that's good. Although, of course, why it was placed on the back is not very clear. In recent months it has begun to seem to me that everyone has come together to the conclusion that the scanner on the side is our everything.

The battery of the Pixel 4a 5G is slightly smaller, 3885 mAhagainst 4080 mAh for the Pixel 5. Both devices support 18W fast charging. Wireless charging, as I said, is available only to the senior in rank.

The front camera is single. The resolution is modest, 8 MP. The rear camera is double, 12 + 16 MP. Main module plus wide angle. Of course, I understand that they are magicians there in Google and will squeeze out everything they can from these cameras, and even a little more. But the lack of a telephoto is upsetting. We are waiting for smartphones to appear in the hands of reviewers and they begin to actively compare them with current photo leaders. I think it will be interesting.

No sixth Wi-Fi. The rest is a classic full minced meat. NFC, Type-C 3.1, barometer, e-sim ... A huge number of 4G / 5G bands supported.

Android, of course, is the most recent, that is, number 11. Updates to Android 14 inclusive are promised.

From the sad. Dropped Motion Sense. Either no one needs it, or for the sake of economy - there are still additional sensors, etc.
