Due to concerns related to possible blocking of virtual SIM cards - eSIM, the Ministry of Digital Development and the FSB

are considering plans for the introduction of domesticplatforms for servicing such cards. The platform will allow you to install eSIM in the event that foreign equipment vendors block the software used for these purposes in the event of sanctions or on their own initiative. In Russia, about 2 million smartphones with eSIM support were sold last year, hundreds of thousands of Russians activated eSIM, and in the future there will be even more such devices. Some new smartphones will not be able to work without the use of eSIM, and eSIM is increasingly being used in various industrial equipment. The Ministry of Digital Development, together with the Radio Research Institute and the Federal Security Service, are discussing the introduction of a domestic platform, the pilot zone of which should be deployed on the territory of the Radio Research Institute, where operators will be able to connect and test the proposed infrastructure.
