The duty-free limit for online purchases may be lowered to 200 euros in April

The Ministry of Finance opposed maintaining the previous thresholdduty-free online purchases up to €1,000 euros, supporting the idea of reducing it to €200. In this regard, market participants fear an increase in the cost of imported goods or the “leaving” of some of them from domestic marketplaces.

According to the source, an earlier letter about the importanceThe logistics service Cdek.Shopping sent the Ministry of Finance to maintain the current duty-free threshold, but on February 16, the company, like representatives of the Yandex.Market and OZON marketplaces, received a negative response. Thus, from April 1, 2024, the tax-free purchase limit can be reduced to 200 euros.

The publication also cites a statement from a representativeThe Ministry of Finance that the final decision on the issue of this limit will be made by the government. The EEC noted that the commission had not received a corresponding request from Russia.

OZON trading platform in case of cancellation of the currentthreshold of 1000 euros predicts an increase in the cost of goods in the price category from €200 to €1000 euros by 10-15%. According to the marketplace, this change will affect about 34 million Russians who buy goods abroad. Representatives of Wildberries suggest that goods available only through e-commerce channels may disappear from the marketplace’s assortment—for example, a number of items of household appliances.

General Director of the company "Eterna" DmitryTomilin believes that it is worth making exceptions for those goods that cannot be imported. Taking into account the five-fold reduction in the limit, such goods will become unavailable to many buyers (usually with low incomes), according to a letter from the Consumers Union signed by the chairman of the organization, Peter Shelishch, to the government.
