belated. Kindle Scribe is Amazon's first big reader this decade

At the end of September, Amazon announced the imminent availability of a large Amazon Kindle Scribe e-book with a classic 10.2″ ink screen.

It is noteworthy here that this is the first bigereader from Amazon for a very long time. Older people may remember that there was once an Amazon Kindle DX device with a 9.7″ screen and a keyboard, but that was more than a decade ago. Now the fashion is completely different. No keyboards. Only handwriting with a stylus.

It is even somehow strange that Amazon itched for so long.Because other manufacturers have very large devices. You can remember the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus, PocketBook 970 (InkPad Lite), Bookeen Notea, Kobo Elipsa... So there is nothing unusual in a large reader, sharpened not only for reading, but also for writing with a stylus, no.

But here's where Amazon outperformed everyone, so it's inscreen resolution. Something I do not see other large readers with a screen of such high resolution, 300 dpi. (If I'm wrong, please correct me in the comments). 300 ppi has long been the standard for smaller screens, eight inches and below. But not for the big ones.

So. Full screen specifications. Diagonal 10.2″ (322 cm²). The exact resolution is not specified. Judging by the pictures, the aspect ratio of the screen is classic, 4:3. So you can figure out what should be about 1836x2448 pixels. The ink is black and white, not color. There is a backlight with adjustable color temperature.

The screen can be operated either with your fingers or with the included stylus. So it looks like we have two touch layers here - capacitive for the fingers and inductive for the stylus.

In fact, with the main characteristics of the tablet, this is almost all ... The brand of the chipset, battery capacity, the amount of RAM Amazon, as usual, does not report.

The device is very thin, only 5.8 mm. But we must understand that it is more expensive to operate such things without a case, so the actual thickness will be much larger.

Connection. Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth, Type-C - no surprises here.

Everything else that is said about Kindle Scribe is already on the software side. Create notes and outlines, draw over existing documents such as pdf files, etc.

Two words about styluses. There are two of them, called "Basic Pen" and "Premium Pen". The latter is $30 more expensive. It features a programmable button on which you can hang some kind of action. Plus it has an "eraser". Those. instead of choosing the eraser mode on the screen, you just flip the stylus upside down and start erasing. Well, yes, like a regular pencil with an eraser. That is, in fact, “Premium Pen” is a double-sided stylus. Comfortable.

About money.

Four varieties will be on sale. With 16GB internal memory and Basic Pen. And also with 16, 32 or 64 GB of memory and Premium Pen.

The price in the US is $339.99 (₽20800), $369.99 (₽22700), $389.99 (₽23900) and $419.99 (₽25700) respectively.

The price in Europe is €369.99 (₽22200, $362), €399.99 (₽24000, $392), €419.99 (₽25200, $411) and €449.99 (₽27000, $441).
