Announcement. Onyx Boox Poke 4 and Onyx Boox Poke 4s are nicely inexpensive readers

In China, a pair of budget ink readers appeared on sale - Onyx Boox Poke 4 and Onyx Boox Poke 4s. Curiously, they are simpler and cheaper than their predecessor Onyx Boox Poke 3. A kind of downgrade.

Let's get acquainted.

Screens E-Ink Carta 1100, six-inch (111 cm²), touch, non-color (traditional 16 grayscale).
Poke 4s has a low resolution, 758×1024 (212 ppi). Poke 4 has the same as Poke 3, i.e. 1072×1448 (300 ppi).

There is a backlight with the ability to adjust the color temperature (32 levels).

Readers work on Android 11 version (as usual, third-party applications can be installed). Iron, respectively, is more or less “smartphone”.

It is true that here with the filling, it is not very clear.As far as I could understand, there is a certain Qualcomm quad-core chip with a frequency of 2 GHz. Do you know many of them? The most recent I know of is the 2018 Snapdragon 429. But as far as I know, it has never been used in e-books.

In any case, it is obvious that the iron is weak. However, readers do not need much. (The Poke 3 has a clearly more powerful eight-core Snapdragon 636 born in 2017).

Memory. By the standards of readers, it is quite enough.2 GB RAM. Poke 4s has 16 GB of permanent memory, Poke 4 has more, 32 GB. There is no support for memory cards, but you can, if necessary, connect external media via USB (Type-C).

The battery is small, 1500 mAh. But the weight is small, only 150 grams. Those. lighter than almost any modern smartphone.

Connection. There is dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth fifth version.

There is nothing more. Readers are not trained to play music. Although, probably, nothing prevents you from connecting a speaker via Bluetooth.

The delivery set is minimal. Only the devices themselves and the Type-C cord. There is no charger. The cover will have to be purchased separately.

The prices don't bite.Onyx Boox Poke 4s will sell for only ¥699 (₽6600, $104) at the start of sales, Poke 4 for ¥949 (₽8970, $141). Then the price will rise to ¥749 (₽7080, $111) and ¥999 (₽9440, $149), respectively.

For comparison, Poke 3 is now available in China for ¥1140 (₽10800, $169) (the same 2+32 GB as Poke 4). And in Russia, Poke 3 now costs from ₽17,999 ($283) (the minimum price is now in DNS).

Whether new items will appear in Russia is still unknown.
