IFixit experts disassembled and assessed the maintainability of Huawei Mate 40 Pro (8 photos)


Introduced to the market almost two months agothe flagship smartphone Huawei Mate 40 Pro finally fell into the hands of iFixit experts, who evaluated the build quality and the suitability of the device for repair. The results showed that the maintainability of the top-end smartphone, which starts at $ 1,400, leaves much to be desired. On the standard 10-point scale of iFixit, the smartphone was awarded only 4 points.

Traditionally, iFixit experts have completely disassembledflagship Huawei Mate 40 Pro and assessed the build quality, considered the design features and assessed the maintainability. Experts noted both negative and positive qualities of the smartphone design.

Facilitate disassembly and subsequent reassemblyThe Mate 40 Pro smartphone can be repaired using standard Phillips screws used throughout the phone. The modular assembly of the main components of the smartphone was also noted, which allows them to be promptly replaced, in case of access to them. However, it is with access that the main problems of the device arise.

Removing a battery secured with snap-on "tabs" would be quick and easy, but many cables and covers must be removed before reaching the battery.

Among the clearly negative properties of the structureHuawei Mate 40 Pro, experts called the high fragility of the smartphone. The front and back surfaces are protected by glass and can be easily damaged if dropped. For the sake of fairness, it can be noted that many modern top smartphones use such a design solution.


IFixit experts noticed that the adhesive forthe display is "insanely durable", which makes it difficult to dismantle this rather fragile component. In addition, the display cannot be replaced without removing the battery, and the sub-screen fingerprint sensor cannot be replaced without first removing the display.


As a result, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro smartphone was rated only 4 out of 10 points on the iFixit maintainability scale.
