Station "Luna-25" successfully entered the lunar orbit

According to Roskosmos, launched onLast week, the Luna-25 space station had already reached its intermediate destination - it entered the circumlunar orbit. Its launch was the first such project in the modern history of Russia.

According to the source, the maneuver was carried outby means of two inclusions of the propulsion system. The first activation was performed by the corrective braking engine and lasted 243 seconds, the second - by soft landing engines (76 seconds).

“All Luna-25 systems are functioning properly, communication with it is stable. Sessions are being taken to measure the current navigational parameters," the Roscosmos press service said.

It is known that for the next three days the stationwill spend in a circular 100-kilometer orbit, after which it will begin to decline - landing to the north of the Boguslavsky crater is scheduled for August 21. In this respect, Luna-25 differs from its predecessors: it must make a soft landing not in the equatorial zone, but in the near-polar region with a much more complex terrain. The list of tasks of the space station includes soil analysis (including the search for water on the surface of the satellite), as well as various studies of the lunar exosphere.
