  • First OnePlus Pad - video
  • OnePlus Pad is the company's first tablet in 9 yearsexistence. Although it costs more than most competitive Android models, the performance here is good. The large 11.61-inch display has an unusual 7:5 aspect ratio, with a refresh rate of 144Hz.

You can connect a keyboard to the tablet anduse as a laptop, but accessories will have to be purchased separately. Unfortunately, the operating system here is not well optimized for a large display, so the device is not well suited for work tasks. If you need a tablet for watching videos and surfing the web, OnePlus' Pad is a good choice.

    Unpacking and packaging

The OnePlus Pad comes in a large white box, but there are few accessories inside.

In addition to the tablet, in the package you will find:

    • USB-C cable
    • Documentation
    • Charger 100W

There are two optional accessories available for the Pad model: the OnePlus Stylo and the Magnetic Keyboard.

    Design and features

OnePlus Pad has an attractive design and high build quality.

The 11.61-inch display is covered with glass, whichslightly rounded on the sides. The bezels around the screen are quite thin, although for a tablet this is more of a drawback, because there is little room for fingers. The corners are very rounded, and this applies not only to the case, but also to the screen. Because of this, some of the content may be cut off, albeit slightly.

If you hold the gadget in landscape orientation, the front camera will be in the upper frame, in the middle. On the left side there is a power button and two speakers, and on the right side there are two more speakers and a USB-C connector. On the bottom side there are magnetic connectors for connecting the keyboard, and on the top there is a flat panel for recharging the stylus, a microphone and volume buttons here at the left corner.

The back of the Pad is made of metal and hasthere are a lot of prints left. What's more, the ribbed surface makes it hard to clean and ruins the overall design experience. So that the prints are not visible, you will have to buy a keyboard case.

The thickness of the case is only 6.5 mm, which is not mucheven by smartphone standards. When you connect the keyboard, the tablet remains thin, and it is convenient to take it with you. The build quality is also excellent - the device seems to be as reliable as possible, even if it does not have protection against water and dust. Unfortunately, there is only one for sale - the green body color.

    Screen and picture quality

The first OnePlus Pad boasts big11.61-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2800x2000 pixels and an unusual 7:5 aspect ratio. The refresh rate reaches 144 Hz, and the color depth is 10 bits.

Let not OLED be used here, but an LCD matrix, she's gorgeous. The image is always clear and detailed, and the color gamut does not change when viewed from any angle. Brightness when adjusted through the slider rises to 440 nits, which is quite enough for daylight.

The OnePlus Pad's screen lacks only a contrast ratio of 1195:1, so blacks often appear dark grey.

The refresh rate reaches 144 Hz, although inmost applications do not rise above 120 Hz. Unfortunately, in many games and drawing applications, the frequency does not exceed 60 Hz at all. This is a known problem with OnePlus devices - the company itself decides what refresh rate should be in certain applications. You can't set all apps to 144Hz or create a whitelist, which is annoying.

    Tablet accessories

There are no additional accessories included with the OnePlus Pad, but they can be purchased separately.

The most useful of them is a keyboard with a trackpad.OnePlus Magnetic Keyboard, which is also a case with a stand. The keyboard is attached to the underside of the tablet via magnetic connectors. When you connect an accessory, the back cover will be protected by a case with a soft coating that resembles leather.

Thanks to the cover, there will be no residue left on the casestains and fingerprints, and it will become more convenient to hold the device in your hands. Despite the small dimensions, the keys are quite large, and the top row is occupied by numbers. When you press the Fn button, they can perform additional functions such as changing the volume or brightness. Under the space bar is a trackpad that supports multi-touch gestures.

In general, typing on the keyboard is comfortable - the keys have good travel and excellent feedback.

Although the Magnetic Keyboard is goodaccessory, he has problems. Firstly, the stand at the back has an uncomfortable angle of inclination - with it, the tablet stands almost vertically, which is why you have to look at the screen a little from above. Secondly, the keyboard is not backlit, making it difficult to use in the dark.

Trackpad heights for such a large display alsonot enough - in one movement it is not always possible to move the cursor from bottom to top, to the end. But, in addition to the Magnetic Keyboard, there is a OnePlus Stylo stylus on sale. Connects to the Pad wirelessly via Bluetooth and charges via the magnetic pad on the top of the case.

The stylus is quite comfortable and well suited fordrawing or writing notes. It recognizes 4096 levels of pressure, so that when you press harder, the drawn line becomes thicker. Pressure protection is also well implemented here - while drawing, you can safely put your palm on the screen.

    Cameras OnePlus Pad

The OnePlus Pad has a single maina 13-megapixel camera with autofocus is located at the back. When shooting in the dark, the LED flash helps, so you can record 720p, 1080p and 4K video at 30 fps. However, electronic stabilization at 4K is not available.

On the front is an 8MP fixed-focus camera.

The quality of shooting at the main sensor of the tabletnot bad - the colors are pleasant, and the detail is quite high. This is enough to shoot a page with text, but in other situations it is more convenient to use a smartphone.

Front camera thanks to wide viewing anglegreat for video calls. There's also a Limelight feature that detects a face in a frame and centers it when everything else is cropped.

    Software

OnePlus Pad runs on operating systemAndroid 13 with OxygenOS 13.1 shell. It's a slightly tweaked version of OxygenOS for smartphones that adds some useful features for a large display.

All the icons here are on the home screens, just like on the iPad, although app drawers can be activated as well.

Despite the large screen, put a lot of iconson the home screen will not work - there is too much space between them, especially on the sides. If you add two or three widgets, there will be practically no space for icons at all.

Swipe down from the left side of the display opens the panelquick settings, on the right - the notification panel. On the new Pad, this gesture is not very convenient - if you have a widget with scrolling content, swiping down on the widget, instead of scrolling content, can open the notification panel.

At least with multitasking in OxygenOS 13.1 is fine. Swiping down with two fingers splits the screen, after which two apps can be opened side by side. The Dual Windows feature allows you to display the same application in two windows, but not all applications support this option. But many of them can be placed in floating windows, but two such windows cannot be opened at the same time.

Unfortunately, Android is still poorly optimized for large displays. Many applications do not display correctly in landscape orientation, although this is how tablets are commonly used.

This is especially critical if you are goingbuy a keyboard for OnePlus Pad and use the gadget as an analogue of a laptop. Because of this, iPad remains a much better option for work tasks, while Android tablets are more suitable for reading and watching videos.

    Component performance

The OnePlus Pad is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor and a Mali-G710 MC10 video chip. The amount of RAM is 8 or 12 GB, and internal - 128/256 GB.

In terms of performance, the Dimensity 9000 is on par with the Snapdragon 870, which is why the Pad is weaker than most flagship smartphones.

When scrolling windows, sometimes there are smalllags, although these are more likely problems with OS optimization, and not with iron. Unfortunately, you should not expect high performance in games either - even at low graphics settings, there are subsidence and frame drops. Stable 60 fps are only found in older games that do not require powerful hardware.

In the GeekBench 5 performance test, the tabletOnePlus scores 856/3158 points, and in the GFX Aztek ES 3.1 High (onscreen) graphics test it scores 28 fps. Due to the large surface of the case, heat is dissipated efficiently, and the speed of work under load does not drop much. The area between the camera and the power key becomes warm, but you are unlikely to touch it with your hands.

    Sound and speakers

The OnePlus Pad has four speakers - two each on the left and right when holding the tablet in landscape orientation.

They sound good and are of the best quality.can be expected at 40-70% volume. At other values, the bass is practically inaudible, and at medium levels it is not enough, which is the main drawback of these emitters.

OnePlus Pad does not have a 3.5mm headphone jackalthough there is a lot of free space on the sides. You need to connect headphones via Bluetooth, especially since support for the most popular audio codecs has been added.

    OnePlus Pad battery life

The Pad has a 9510 mAh battery under the body, which is larger than many of its competitors.

But, the Dimensity 9000 processor consumes a lotenergy, so such a power reserve is needed here. A full battery provides up to 13 hours of continuous web browning at a high refresh rate or 12.5 hours of 60Hz video playback.

The tablet supports 67W SuperVOOC fast charging. In half an hour, the battery is half charged, and a full charge from 0 to 100% takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, which is quite fast.

    Total

Although the OnePlus Pad is the company's first tablet, it turned out to be a pretty good gadget.

The case here is incredibly thin, build qualityhigh, and the large display pleases with high resolution and high-quality images. You can additionally buy a stylus or a keyboard, turning the device into an analogue of a laptop.

Unfortunately, the model has many shortcomings. The Android 13 operating system is still poorly optimized for large screens, and OxygenOS 13.1 does not solve many problems. Although the hardware is powerful, there are lags when working in some applications, and in games the frame rate is lower than the desired value.

At the same time, the OnePlus tablet is not cheap, so it does not quite justify its high price.

    Should I buy

Although the OnePlus Pad is hardly a bad tablet, for work tasks it is better to take the iPad, and for games and watching videos, the more powerful Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro.
