In the middle of the outgoing month it became knownthat the Chinese company Lenovo will demonstrate a prototype laptop with a transparent display at MWC 2024, and a device called ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop was indeed demonstrated by the manufacturer at the event. The creators suggest that the display, which changes the degree of transparency, will attract the attention of artists and designers.

According to Lenovo representatives, to whichThe Verge refers to a transparent screen that may be needed by specialists working with photographs and graphics. An architect, placing such a laptop in front of the landscape of interest to him, will be able to create a sketch of the future building without taking his eyes off the screen. On the outside of the laptop lid there is a camera that recognizes objects located behind the laptop. This allows, according to Lenovo's plan, to work with augmented reality technologies.

Technically frameless MicroLED displayIt has a diagonal of 17.3 inches and is frameless, and its supported resolution is limited to 720p. However, if Lenovo wanted to make a transparent OLED panel, the display resolution would have to be lowered to 480p. To turn the display surface opaque, it needs to be filled with a white background, while the maximum screen brightness reaches 1000 nits. The existing prototype does not allow the entire surface of the screen to be made opaque, but Lenovo expects to achieve this in the production version. The display transparency does not exceed 55 percent. According to company representatives, similar technologies will find application in serial laptops within the next five years.

The laptop prototype does not have a physical keyboard, instead, a virtual keyboard is displayed on the glass surface if necessary, which turns off automatically when the user moves away from the computer. On this surface, using the included pen, you can draw and draw, which once again proves the narrow functional focus of the device. There is no guarantee that Lenovo will release a laptop with a transparent display into series.
