The ultra-lightweight exoskeleton with AI will save you strength while running (video)

The concept of "exoskeleton" is very quick from the outlandishbecame an ordinary, very real concept. An exoskeleton is an “external skeleton” that repeats human biomechanics, while increasing its strength. The first prototypes weighed several hundred kilograms, and since then the issues of minimizing exoskeleton sizes and human energy costs during its operation are the main ones in the development of new species.

A team of engineers from Harvard University andThe University of Nebraska has developed and presented an exoskeleton that has the appearance of sports shorts. They are fastened to the user's body with a set of belts and are equipped with an electronic unit. This design made the device ultra-light and ultra-compact, its weight is only 5 kg, and it is concentrated at 90% near the center of mass of a person’s body, so that it does not actually feel heaviness.

Artificial Intelligence Analyzes Movementuser, and then adapts the work of all mechanisms for him. In each individual case, the adjustment takes into account the physiological characteristics of the owner of the exoskeleton. AI adjusts the dynamic system so that it removes part of the load from the gluteal and femoral muscles.

When conducting tests, the exoskeleton is best at running and walking. When using the device, the subjects had reduced energy consumption by 4% when walking and by 9% when running.

The next version of the exoskeleton, the developers intend to design for people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system. It will be especially useful for them during rehabilitation.
