In South Africa found the remains of one of the largest dinosaurs of the Jurassic period

Paleontology is perhaps one of thosesciences, the achievements of which, if not overturn the generally accepted notions, then, at least, make you take a fresh look at already known things or even an entire era. For example, according to Current Biology, a group of researchers recently discovered the skeleton of a giant 12-ton dinosaur in the territory of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa), which, according to the data obtained, is the largest terrestrial animal that lived on Earth about 200 million years ago.

The discovery was made during the study.sedimentary rocks in South Africa. It has preserved many fossils and this is not the first find of experts, but the most significant. Paleontologists found that the ancient pangolin walked on four legs and lived on the plains of modern South Africa. Now this area is a mountainous region with meadows, but 200 million years ago it was a semi-desert with small oases. It is assumed that dinosaurs led a "nomadic" lifestyle, moving from one fertile area to another. The new dinosaur is called Ledumahadi mafube. Moreover, which is funny, translated from one of the official languages of South Africa, this means "a powerful thunderclap at dawn." According to one of the members of the expedition from the University of Witwatersrand, Dr. Blair McPhee,

“The ancient pangolin looked like giant sauropods, but the limbs of these animals were usually quite thin, and they were extremely massive in the Ledumahadi mafube.”

But that is not all. It was found that the Ledumahadi mafube is related to other giants. The already mentioned sauropods that inhabited the territory of modern Argentina. And this is not surprising, because in the days of the Pangea dinosaurs (a single continent) there still existed and dinosaurs could easily move to any of its points.
