While world leaders are developing long-termplans to combat the pandemic of the new coronavirus, you and I need to think about health - our own and those close to us. And first of all it concerns tobacco lovers. At the very beginning of the outbreak, practically nothing was known about how CoVID-19 affects the body of smokers. Soon there were rumors that smokers were allegedly not susceptible to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This, of course, is not true. In fact, according to recent research, the new coronavirus first attacks the lungs. This is also confirmed by the results of a small preliminary study conducted on 78 patients in China. According to the data obtained, smokers are 14 times more likely to develop a more severe form of CoVID-19.
So, if you have long wanted to quit smoking, thenbetter do it right now. As Panagis Galiazatos, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, who studies pulmonology, told Inverse, if a smoker becomes infected with a new coronavirus, he will suffer terrible consequences. So if you want to be 100% prepared for a pandemic, you should quit smoking right now.
Why is smoking a pandemic a bad idea?
According to Sven Eric Yordt, ProfessorDuke University, which studied the connection between electronic cigarettes and asthma, all scientists fears are based on facts. Today, there is clear evidence that smoking can have a negative effect on the body's ability to fight the virus. Smokers are at risk, partly because this habit damages the protective mechanism of the lungs - cilia. Cilia cover the airways and cleanse them of bacteria, dust particles, germs and other unwanted objects. Damage to cilia caused by smoking can not only lead to the inability to clear the lungs of viral particles, but also to a severe course of the disease. Despite the fact that everyone is susceptible to infection with CoVID-19, the symptoms that the virus causes depend on the state of health of the body and lungs.
However, mortality and severe course of CoVID-19observed in older people with existing health problems - such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, dysfunction of the lungs or lung diseases associated with smoking, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), puts people at risk of serious complications of CoVID-19. Recall that a new coronavirus leads to the development of SARS. This means that the membranes of the lungs are blocked and gradually filled with fluid, as a result, a person is threatened with death by strangulation.

In a previous article onthe CoVID-19 pandemic, we said that the new coronavirus is a lung disease that greatly weakens the immune system and has a negative effect on the kidneys and stomach. And everything that weakens the immune system and lung health puts a person at even greater risk and the grave consequences of SARS-CoV-2. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not classify smokers or vapers as high risk.

The lists featured older people with alreadyexisting lung diseases, including chronic ones. And to include all smokers in the high-risk category of severe consequences from CoVID-19, there is not enough research today. Which, in fact, is quite logical, since the pandemic of the new coronavirus lasts only a few months. It’s not clear right now how many people are trying to quit smoking, but I want to believe that their number will increase. Still, you and I do not have to be doctors of science to understand that smoking cigarettes and vapes is an additional risk during a pandemic. Take care of yourself and give up bad habits.
