Who will fly to the moon in 2024 and how much will it cost

Humans have not flown to the moon for more than half a century, but inthe next few years the situation will change. At the end of 2022, the NASA aerospace agency officially launched the Artemis program, which will consist of at least ten missions. As part of the Artemis-1 mission, the unmanned Orion spacecraft flew around the moon and returned to Earth 25 days later. In November 2024, it is planned to launch the Artemis-2 manned mission, during which four astronauts will fly around the moon. Recently, NASA announced the names of space explorers who will go down in history - they are Christina Cook, Victor Glover, Reed Wiseman and Jeremy Hansen. In the framework of this article, we propose to learn more about these astronauts. We will also talk about how many millions of dollars it will cost to return people to the moon.

Names of astronauts who will fly to the moon in 2024

The names of the participants in the Artemis-2 mission werepublished on the official website of NASA. As part of the second stage of the space program for the return of the People to the Moon, these people will have to make an orbit around the Moon inside the Orion spacecraft and return to Earth. Astronauts will definitely not land on the surface of the earth's satellite - this event will occur as part of the Artemis-3 mission in 2025.

The Artemis 2 mission is expected to begin in November 2024 and last 10 days.

Christina Cook

Christina Cook is a 44-year-old American NASA astronaut who is best known for holding the female space flight record for 328 days, 13 hours and 58 minutes.

She began her career as an astronaut in 2013, whenpassed the selection and began training. She made her first flight on March 14, 2019, becoming a member of the crew of the Soyuz MS-12 mission. During this mission, she made six paired spacewalks. Christina Cook has many achievements in the field of space exploration, so she is a very worthy candidate for participation in the historically important flight to the moon.

Victor Glover

Victor Glover is a 46-year-old American astronaut, famous for flying on the Dragon V2 ship in November 2020. During the mission, he made four spacewalks - the total time of work was 27 hours.

Prior to becoming a NASA astronaut, he served inUS Navy. He began his training in 2013 and made his first flight seven years later. As part of the Artemis 2 mission, Victor Glover will be the pilot of the Orion spacecraft and the first African-American astronaut to go to the moon.

Reed Wiseman

47-year-old Gregory Reid Wiseman made histhe first flight is much earlier than the others - in 2014. Then he went to the ISS as part of the Soyuz TMA-13M mission. During the flight, he participated in biomedical experiments and made two spacewalks with a total duration of 12 hours and 47 minutes.

As part of the Artemis 2 mission, Reed Wiseman will be the commander of the Orion spacecraft.

Jeremy Hansen

Jeremy Hansen, 47, is the only Canadian inmission "Artemis-2", so he will be the first non-US astronaut to fly to the moon. He holds the rank of pilot colonel in the Canadian Air Force and has never been in space. Perhaps this is the most interesting thing that can be said about him.

Treasure with bitcoins on the moon

At the end of the article, I want to write one morenews - According to Space.com, in the fall of 2023, SpaceX will deliver a key to a crypto wallet with 62 bitcoins to the moon. At the current exchange rate, this is about $1.5 million, but the amount may increase because the wallet is open and people can raise rates. The owner of the key will be the first person to reach the moon and find the container with the key. The initiator of this "treasure hunt" is the company LunarCrush.

Who will become the owner of the wallet is not clear - ratherof all, they will be an astronaut. After all, ordinary people will not be able to fly to the moon in any way, because even the largest representatives of space tourism services (here are reviews of tourist flights into space) cannot organize a walk on the earth's satellite for ordinary people. And isn't that too little? After all, to get $ 1.5 million, people will obviously need much more investment.
