According to the World Health Organization,in 2016, more than 17 million people died from cardiovascular diseases. It is noteworthy that the cause of 85% of these deaths was a heart attack, in which part of the heart muscle stops working due to insufficient blood flow. However, even if a person managed to survive this near death condition, it can overtake a person a second time. Recently, scientists from Sweden conducted a study involving more than 20,000 people and found out which people are most susceptible to a second heart attack.
According to the scientific journal European Journal ofPreventive Medicine, scientists initially took into account that regular heart problems usually occur in overweight people. Typically, most of these people suffer from the so-called metabolic syndrome, the most obvious symptom of which is a large stomach. The accumulation of fat in the abdomen, in turn, increases the risk of developing diabetes mellitus and diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Can a second heart attack happen?
Based on the foregoing, scientistssuggested that a second heart attack occurs in people with a large amount of fat in the abdomen. To prove this, researchers led by Professor Hiniye Muhammadi about 22882 patients in one of the Swedish hospitals. They were united by the fact that from 2005 to 2014 they survived a heart attack. In addition, many of them showed signs of obesity.
Having studied the data on the physical condition of patients, scientists selected among them men with a waist circumference of more than 101.3 centimeters and women with a waist circumference of 94.1 centimeters. According to the World Health Organization, it is precisely with people with such indicators that serious problems with the work of the cardiovascular system begin to arise. If the scientists ’assumption was correct, then over time a repeated heart attack should have happened in this particular group of people, and the rest, for the most part, should have remained healthy.
Do you know that obesity can lead to brain destruction?
Over 3.8 years, repeated attacks have beenrecorded in 1232 men and 469 women. According to the researchers, the previously selected group with a large amount of fat on the abdomen was subject to repeated manifestations of the disease 21% more than the rest. For all this, scientists also considered that some people could abuse cigarettes and alcohol, which also increases the risk of a heart attack.

Researchers believe doctors are always importantpay attention to the waist circumference of patients. This is especially important if they survived after the first heart attack, because they can no longer withstand the second manifestation of the disease. Such patients should be carefully monitored and timely provided assistance in case of any problems.
