The court of the Tagansky district of Moscow fined the WhatsApp messenger for 18 million rubles for refusing to localize data
Russians.The trial took place without the participation of the defendant's representative. WhatsApp was found guilty of violating Art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for failure by the operator, when collecting personal data, to fulfill the obligation to localize them. According to the current legislation of the Russian Federation, companies operating in Russia with personal data of Russian citizens must localize this data in Russia. On July 6, the court received a protocol, which noted the repeated refusal of the WhatsApp messenger to localize user data in Russia. Previously, Zoom, Apple, Twitch, Airbnb, Snapchat and Pinterest were fined for refusing to localize user data.
