What foods improve memory?

Who would not want to get a pill by takingwhich one could make yourself a super memory? Yes, almost like in the movie "Areas of Darkness." But while there are no such developments (or they simply don’t tell us about them), people are trying to “pump” their brains in folk ways - training and the right food. Although few people think about what he eats, and it is often more important for people to eat tasty rather than healthy. But not for everyone. We all know about the benefits of citrus fruits, vegetables and meat, but what foods have the most impact on our memory and the brain as a whole? And most importantly - how to combine them correctly?

Some foods are good not only for memory, but for the whole brain.

Scientists from France were puzzled by this question, who investigated not only which foods are best used to prevent dementia, but also the right combinations between these foods. To do this, they studied in detail the diet of people who are diagnosed with dementia, with the nutrition of a healthy person. It turned out that between the two groups there is a huge difference in food intake - from a set of products to eating them together.

What is dementia

Dementia - A disease in which there is a strong deterioration in memory and the degradation of thinking. Patients with dementia are much worse able to perform the usual actions. The syndrome occurs mainly in older people.

Researchers from the University of Bordeaux conductedexperiment: each with dementia they selected two healthy participants of the same gender and age, as well as educational level. Then absolutely everyone was asked what kind of food they eat and what foods their breakfast, lunch and dinner consist of. In total, scientists were interested in 148 foods and drinks from different groups: vegetables, fruits, meat products, seafood, sausages, fast food, cooking oils, dairy products, alcohol and cereals.

What foods affect memory

Based on surveys, scientists built two graphsnutrition: one for patients with dementia, the other for other participants. The graphs show how often participants from the two groups consume certain foods, and how to combine them together. It turned out that the two groups had different dietary preferences, although some products were central to both categories. In addition, healthy people combine foods very differently.

Participants with dementia mix foods poorly and eat a lot of fatty foods

For dementia patients, the graph is almostcompletely single - all because they often thoughtlessly combine products with each other. People with dementia prefer to eat sausages and combine them with potatoes and soup, as well as yogurts (!) And fruits that have been processed (like peaches in their own juice). Healthy participants prefer to eat meat products with raw and cooked vegetables. And it certainly won’t occur to them to eat yogurt with sausage or raw vegetables, as people with dementia do.

As for alcohol consumption, for two groups it turned out to be almost the same, only participants with dementia consumed alcoholic drinks mainly with meat, and the other group with fruits.

What foods improve memory and brain function

Eat more nuts and broccoli.

In addition, scientists have identified the main products, which feed participants with dementia, and the rest. In the diet of patients there were not (or they consume too few of them) many of the foods that people with healthy memory eat. Here what foods do scientists think improve memory:

  • Olive oil
  • Walnuts
  • Broccoli
  • Red fish
  • bitter chocolate
  • Pumpkin
  • Arugula

What foods impair memory

But fries are better to eat less

Most of the diets of patients with dementia were semi-finished foods, fried foods and other foods with dubious benefits:

  • Fast food
  • Alcohol
  • Semi-finished products
  • Spicy pepper
  • Sweet soda
  • Bakery products
  • French fries
  • Lyubov Sokovikova not so long ago, she told me what other foods are harmful to the brain. I did not know about the dangers of many.

As the researchers note, it’s not only importantwhat foods a person consumes, but also their combination among themselves. For example, you can eat olive oil in a salad, but frying it in a frying pan in a frying pan is a fancy thing. Or eat broccoli with meat, while reading our Telegram chat, but do not use it with kefir or sausage. Scientists have confirmed the hypothesis that people in old age need nutritional advice to prevent dementia. However, this does not bother us either. eat properly and combine products between themselves.

Experts have long been saying that nutritionis one of the main components of a long and healthy life. And we are talking not only about physical health, but also the work of the brain, including the functioning of memory. For example, walnuts not only make you less forgetful, but also make you less likely to feel depressed. Well, it's better to forget about fried foods and convenience foods. Many leading nutritionists advise either to completely abandon such products, or significantly reduce their intake.
