Today one of the most common amongPeople aged 40 to 50 years or more are considered rheumatoid arthritis. This disease is characterized by the fact that the human immune system begins to attack the joints and activates the inflammatory processes, due to which the person’s tissue is gradually destroyed. This is a rather dangerous disease, because only in 2010, about 49,000 people died from it in the world. To date, a fully effective method of treating rheumatoid arthritis does not exist, so doctors need to give patients medications to artificially slow down the immune system. But the disease still develops and the matter can go so far that the fingers on a person’s hands will begin to fold like telescopes.
This is not a joke or a fantasy, becauseone such medical case has recently been described in the scientific journal The New England Journal of Medicine. According to doctors named Hassan Satis and Abdurahman Tufan, a 69-year-old woman once came to their clinic complaining of a change in the shape of her fingers. Doctors found that her hands were literally turned outward and her joints were soft to the touch, meaning they were swollen. Because of this, the patient could not bend some fingers and even more so compress them into a fist.
There are many articles on unusual medical stories on our site. For example, you can read about how commitment to a healthy lifestyle can harm your kidneys.
The patient shared that rheumatoid arthritis wasdiagnosed with her 18 years ago. Doctors prescribed various medicines to her, but the disease continued to develop. Unfortunately, in this clinic she was not able to provide full assistance, because an effective medicine simply does not exist yet. Doctors once again had to prescribe a woman pills to slow down the immune system, thanks to which the woman at least stopped feeling pain and got rid of severe swelling. However, the mobility of the fingers did not return to her.

It is worth recognizing that the consequences of rheumatoidarthritis is far from the most pleasant sight. This video is another reminder that it is important for scientists to continue developing drugs for this terrible disease. Of course, today there is a huge amount of cure for rheumatoid arthritis, but sometimes they act in completely unpredictable ways. For example, in 2016, Brazilian scientists suddenly discovered that the so-called “Tofacitinib” helps bald people regain their hair.
