VAG is working on creating its own app store for cars

The Volkswagen Group is developing its ownapp store for its brands - Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley. It will have its own computer platform, and it will include both specially developed applications and third-party programs optimized for the car.

The Volkswagen store will offer a wide selectionapplications in various categories: music, weather, video conferencing, podcasts, games, news, parking, charging for electric cars, smart home integration and others. As for well-known applications, TikTok, Spotify and Yelp, among others, will be available at first. All of them will be optimized to run from the screen of the multimedia system.

At first, the store will only be available toowners of some new Audi models in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe: they will receive such functionality this summer. Later it will be extended to other brands and cars, including Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley.

Existing models will not be able to load the storeover the air via over-the-air (OTA). However, Volkswagen promises to soon show a new infotainment stack with advanced features called One.Infotainment, running on the Android Automotive operating system. The app store helped develop Harman, which has been Samsung's subsidiary since 2017.
