The Unihertz Tank looks like a classicsecure smartphone. Only in this case, they took two such smartphones and blinded them together. It turned out a huge gadget with a thickness of 2.5 cm! And such a miracle weighs as much as 560 grams along with a SIM card

Wearing such a device is extremely difficult. I carried it in a backpack, because in other places it either pulls pockets or does not fit.

The phone is made neatly, quite stylishly and with high quality. The front is completely flat, protected by Panda Glass MN228, whatever that means. There are small borders.

The bottom and top parts are reinforced with rubber inserts. Left and right - metal.

On the reverse side is a large yellow spotlight. The cover is made of metal and rubber. At the bottom there is a cutout for a carabiner. The panel is held on by 14 torx screws.

In general, the smartphone looks cool, well, the assembly is as decent as possible.

This machine is protected by IP68/IP69K MIL-STD-810H. He is not afraid of vibration, or sudden temperature changes, or water, or immersion in it.

On the front panel:

Behind the rubber plug:

On the one hand, there are too many buttons. On the other hand, they will definitely work if water gets on the smartphone. Or even underwater. This I mean that the touch touch in a wet environment works out badly.

• SIM card tray. It comes out with your fingers, no paperclip needed. The decision is correct: you never know in what conditions you find yourself with a phone, but you need to change the SIM card.

The maximum brightness of the matrix backlight in manual mode is 450 nits, automatic brightness can give up to 500 nits. For IPS, in general, the norm. Moreover, this is not a flagship.

The picture quality made me happy. The viewing angles are maximum, but the contrast is lost under the slopes. Typical for any IPS matrix.

There is no ripple coefficient, which means, in simple terms, that there is no PWM.

There is no AOD mode, of course.

Connection

The smartphone supports 4G with bands 1-5, 7, 8, 12,13, 17-20, 25, 26, 28, 34, 38-41, 66. Bands 2, 3, 5, 8 are responsible for 3G. And for 2G - frequencies of 800 and 1900 Hz. Unfortunately, there is no frequency aggregation. The call quality is normal, nothing remarkable.

The device works with GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou,Galileo. Positioning is very cool: it instantly determines the coordinates with an accuracy of 1 meter (sees up to 60 satellites, and 40 are in operation). NFC chip available (SberPay works).

The smartphone was equipped with four cameras:

4. Macro: OmniVision OV2680 at 2 MP, sensor size 1/5.00″. Believe it or not, it's from 2013! Once placed as a front module.

During the day, selfies can be taken in excellent quality. I liked the sharpness and details. Correctly conveys skin tone. But with a lack of lighting, as they say, “put out the light”: wild digital noise comes out.

The main camera shoots nothing like that.There is almost no use from a 108 MP module, because it is not enough to put it in a gadget, you also need to write high-quality software for it. Therefore, during the day you will have more or less normal pictures, but by the evening noise will appear again, detail will decrease. But the color is true.

The night vision camera does its jobthe task is good: at night the picture is definitely better than on the main module. True, the picture is black and white. IR illumination "beats" at a distance of up to five meters. In general, a useful thing in certain situations.

Video Tank writes in resolution up to 2560x1440pixels on the main sensor. You cannot select a frame rate. The default is 30 fps. IR camera recording and selfies - 1080p. The video quality is average, I didn't like it very much.

Total: for such a device, the cameras are quite normal, for 25,000 rubles you can hardly come up with something better.

Memory, processor and performance

The Unihertz Tank smartphone offers customersonly one version of the device - 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. It seems to me that it was necessary to put a slot for a memory card. There are plenty of places, positioning - for hiking and other things. So a lot of memory is needed. It is a pity that they did not give a slot for microSD.

The speed of RAM - 4300 MB / s - is extremely weak, but predictable. Drive speed - 890/640 MB / s. I can't even believe it - very high speed.

The SoC is MediaTek Helio G99.This is a fairly modern chip, announced in May 2022. Built on 6 nm process technology, has two clusters of 8 cores: 2 x Cortex-A76 2200 MHz, 6 x Cortex-A55 2000 MHz.

Once again it is worth saying that the Unihertz Tank is notfor all. The application is narrowly focused: hiking in the mountains and forests, rafting on rivers, and so on. You leave civilization far and for a long time. In this case, you will still need a PowerBank and some kind of shock and water resistant smartphone.

So Tank combines these parameters in itself.The operating time is really great: 100% battery can last you for several weeks of use, provided that you periodically pause between active work with gadgets. Yes, even if you do not save the battery, turn on the screen brightness to the maximum, insert a SIM card, then the "Tank" will last for 30-40 hours.

Smartphone stuffing is decent. The processor is modern, the performance is vigorous, the memory is fast and there is a lot of it. Too bad there's no microSD card slot.

A bright spotlight will also come in handy. It can be used in both photos and videos. In addition, there is night vision thanks to two powerful IR LEDs.

Of the minuses, as I have said more than once - the lack of a microSD card! And I would also remove the buttons on the left, they really interfere with using the phone.

It seems to me that for 25,000 - 30,000 rubles, the Unihertz Tank is a unique, albeit a niche product. I recommend taking a look.
