Toyota to release a solid-state electric vehicle with a range of 500 km and a recharge time of 10 minutes

Solve one of the biggest problemselectric vehicles with conventional lithium-ion batteries (short driving distances with long charging times), will be able to revolutionary solid-state battery technology developed by Toyota. According to Nikkei Asia, as early as next year, the auto giant can present a prototype of an electric vehicle with an autonomous radius of 500 km with a solid-state battery charging time from 0 to 100% in just 10 minutes.

Thus, the world's largest manufacturercars is going not only to actively redesign production for the production of electric vehicles, but, using an innovative solution, to oust the current leader of this segment Tesla. The Japanese will offer cars with almost twice the radius of autonomous driving, with the same volume as traditional batteries and greater safety, and most importantly, fast recharging, comparable in time to the refueling time of a car with an internal combustion engine.

Work on solid-state batteries has begunat Toyota just three years ago, in 2017, when it was announced about the intention to release an electric car, the recharging of which will take from 5 to 10 minutes. Work on the creation of the production of solid-state batteries was carried out in partnership with another world industrial leader - Panasonic. Two Japanese corporations have formed a joint venture that will produce a new type of battery.

Based on information received fromInsiders, Nikkei reports that in 2021 Toyota will present a prototype of a future car on solid-state batteries, capable of recharging from 0 to 100% in 10 minutes, and traveling 500 km without recharging. According to sources, retail sales of such vehicles will begin in the first half of the 2020s.

Currently researching solid statebatteries are being conducted by Volkswagen, which plans to launch their production as early as 2025. Chinese technology group QingTao (Kunshan) Energy Development will spend over $ 153 million starting in 2021 on solid-state battery research and development.

Toyota project supported by the Japanese government, created a $ 19.2 billion fund to finance the development of advanced battery systems and to replace Chinese companies as the world's leading lithium-ion batteries.
