Today the market of mobile operatingsystems are divided between two solutions - Android from Google and iOS from Apple. Nevertheless, in the short history of mobile technologies, other systems appeared on the market, and for some time dominated, the existence of which many have already forgotten.

At the beginning of the millennium in 2000 on the marketPalmOS reigned supreme with 69.5%. In second place was its main competitor Windows Mobile with 27.1% market share. The promising Symbian and BlackBerry OS systems also entered the market.

Already in 2003, Symbian captured up to 50% of the market, andPalmOS dropped to 25%. At the same time, the Windows Mobile system showed a steady decline in the market share covered. Symbian's greatest success came in the last months of 2006, when it captured over 67% of the market. Only in May 2007 did the first statistical data appear on the iOS system, which immediately began the stable growth of the covered market.
Since 2008, Android has appeared, which only toJanuary 2009 was able to capture 2% of the market, while iOS was already used by 11.4% of mobile device owners, and the share of Symbian was more than 51%.

It took Android less than two years to come outto the leaders and in November 2010, first to catch up with Symbian (32% each), and then by the summer of 2011 for the first time to capture over 50% of the market. At the same time in July 2011, iOS also first caught up (18.6%), and then surpassed Symbian. By 2013, there were three main systems on the market - Android (81%), iOS (15%) and Windows Mobile (2.9%), other systems accounted for about 1% of the market.

At the beginning of 2017, the number of mobile devices with systems other than Android (85%) and iOS (15%) is becoming too small to be included in the statistics.
