Due to the lack of premiere screenings of foreign films, the number of cinema halls operating in Russia decreased by
third. Most cinemas close on weekdays and reopen on weekends, but some theaters have been out of use for three months. According to forecasts, the situation will only worsen in the near future, as Russian releases do not provide the traffic necessary for the existence of cinemas. The number of operating cinemas, as of June 6, amounted to 3.6 thousand, while on January 5, 5.7 thousand cinemas were operating, a decrease of 36%. Cinemas are using fewer screens, but that doesn't help fight the fall in revenue, which saw a 63% decline to 681.4 million in the first week of June, and cinema attendance fell 57% to 1.2 million.
