Smart watches are becoming increasingly popular, therefore, Qualcomm plans to create processors that extend the capabilities of the Wear OS and increase their power to the level of smartphones. To achieve this, the Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor will be supplemented with a Snapdragon Wear 429 chipset.
In the manufacture of new processor is used12-nm technology and Cortex A53 cores. The chip will support 64-bit applications. A full-fledged Snapdragon 429 is already used in middle-class smartphones, such as the Nokia 3.2 and Redmi 7, and a trimmed version of the platform will be created for the Wear OS smart watch. At the same time, it can support 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8 GB of built-in eMMC 5.1 type, LTE communication standard, Bluetooth 5.0 wireless module and Track3 function, which helps the sensors to read the steps as the user moves.
This innovation will significantly expandplatform capabilities for smart watches. A more powerful chip will create conditions under which a smart watch on Wear OS will be able to compete with Apple Watch devices, which dominate the market of smart watches completely. According to forecasts, new devices with a Snapdragon Wear 429 chip will hit the market not earlier than next year.
