Apple ditched Touch ID in favor of Face IDwhen it released the iPhone X back in 2017. The convenience of Face ID probably means that Apple has no intention of returning a fingerprint scanner to new smartphone models. Luckily, that didn't stop one modder from bringing the feature back to the iPhone.
A video went viral on Twitter in which the moddershowed a way to return Touch ID to an old iPhone. To do this, he soldered the wires of the fingerprint scanner to the logic board of the smartphone. Judging by the fact that this is an A12 Bionic, either the iPhone XS or the iPhone XR has been modified.
At the end of the video, the enthusiast demonstrated that the modified iPhone is capable of recognizing fingerprints. He located the scanner in the power button of the device.
