Tesla recalls 11,704 electric vehicles due to "phantom braking"

Tesla officially recalls 11,704electric vehicles produced in the last four years. All four models produced by the company: Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X will be recalled. The official announcement says that the return of cars is caused by a bug in the "Full Self-Drive" software, which can cause cars to stop without a valid reason.

The problem of false operation of the braking system, leading to an uncontrolled and sudden stop of electric vehicles, was identified on October 23rd. The developers quickly determined that the problem was due to errors in the beta update of the Full Self-Driving autopilot, leading to a breakdown in communication between the two chips. The issue was promptly resolved by October 25, and the incorrect update was canceled.

According to Tesla, reports of accidents, arising due to "phantom braking" have not been reported. However, on October 26, the company decided to recall nearly 12,000 electric vehicles. Experts call this decision strategic and explain Tesla's unwillingness to conflict with the American regulator - the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which makes sure that automakers always recall cars in the event of any traffic safety problems.

Increase in the number of cars takingAn over-the-air update could change the NHTSA's safety regulations in the near future and allow companies like Tesla not to recall electric vehicles, but to send a bug fix report to the regulator in the update.
