T-shirt with an unusual pattern turns a person into an invisibility for digital cameras

Government agencies around the world are activelyIntroduce intelligent surveillance systems used to track the movement of citizens and their identification. In addition to a huge number of state-owned video surveillance systems, there are also private systems owned by companies, shops or security agencies. According to research in London, there is one camera for 14 people, and by 2025 this ratio will increase to 11 people for one security camera. The total number of cameras in the UK capital is already approaching one million.

Seeking to get around the global tracking system, which can identify a person using video cameras, various methods of deceiving artificial intelligence appear. Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and IBM have studied one of these methods using a T-shirt with an extraordinary pattern printed on it, misleading standard personal identification systems.

The principle of human recognition work onstandard scheme: after a moving person is detected, the system marks it with a bounding box and assigns a specific identifier to the object. However, if unusual pixel patterns are placed on clothing and in particular on a T-shirt, artificial intelligence will be misled and the task of identifying a person will not be solved.

As a result of the study of the effect of drawings on AIobservation systems, scientists from MIT found that the probability of correct identification when wearing "digital camouflage" can be reduced by 63%. True, creating such clothes for use in the real world is still quite difficult.

Scientists note that the main goal of the experiment isthis is the identification of gaps in the system of operation of neural systems that allow to deceive artificial intelligence using clothing covered with a special pattern.
