Scientists have told how to drink water in order to maintain health

2019 reached an all-time highThe average life expectancy in Russia is 73.34 years. During the coronavirus pandemic, the situation deteriorated greatly, but already in 2022, the indicator began to level off. Most people die due to diseases: with age, our heart, brain and other internal organs begin to work worse. To maintain health, people try to move more, keep a sleep schedule, eat right, lean less on alcohol, and so on. Recently, scientists studied the blood tests of more than 10 thousand people and found another key to healthy aging - people need to be well hydrated. What does this smart word mean?

Why You Should Drink Water Every Day

To put it simply, hydration is the saturation of the body with water. The fact that drinking water is a very important factor for maintaining health, scientists have known for a long time. Human muscles are 73% water, so hydration is very important for their development, as well as the proper absorption of nutrients and the functioning of many other systems in the human body. Since childhood, we have been told that we need to consume up to 3 liters of water a day every day. Some experts do not quite agree with this, because the rate of water for each day depends on the body weight of a person. But, in general, all this is true - it is very important for people to drink clean water. This has been proven in a recent study.

How to know if there is enough water in the body

Specialists from the National InstituteUnited States Health Service (NIH), took blood samples from 11,255 people. First, the volunteers were tested at the age of 50, and then - when they were from 70 to 90 years old. Most of all, the authors of the scientific work were interested in the change in the concentration of sodium in the blood, because its level can determine how well the human body was provided with water. If there is a lot of sodium, then there was not enough water, and if there is little, the person drank enough water.

The concentration of sodium in the blood can show how much water a person drinks.

Scientists compared the amount of water drunk with 15health markers. Among them were blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, and so on. Looking at these indicators, scientists were able to assess how “well aged” the respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, immune and other systems of the human body. Also, the authors of the scientific work did not disregard such factors as the age of people, their gender, race and the presence of bad habits.

The amount of water you drink can greatly affect blood tests.

Danger of lack of water for health

By examining blood tests and health indicatorsvolunteers, scientists have found that high sodium is a sign of rapid aging. Thus, people with a blood sodium concentration of more than 146 milliequivalents per liter (mEq/L) had a 21% higher risk of premature death than people with 137–142 mEq/L of blood sodium. This means that people who did not drink enough fluids suffered from cardiovascular and other types of diseases more often than people who drank enough water.

People who have sodium levels in their bloodis 142 mEq/L or higher, it is helpful to consider increasing fluid intake. On a global level, this can make a big difference. Decreased body water is a common factor that increases serum sodium. The results of the work show that drinking enough water can slow down the aging process and prevent or delay the development of chronic diseases, explained Natalya Dmitrieva, MD, MD.

Lack of water in the body can shorten life expectancy

According to her, today few people drink.sufficient amount of fluid, so many people can begin to drink large amounts of water without much health risk. According to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), today most women drink an average of up to 2.2 liters of water per day, and men drink 2-3 liters of fluid.

How to calculate the daily water intake by body weight

The daily rate of water consumption depends on the massbody. If a person does not suffer from excess weight, he is recommended to drink 25-30 ml of liquid per 1 kg of body weight. That is, if a person weighs 60 kg, he needs to drink 1800 ml (1.8 liters) of water. This figure is obtained by multiplying 30 ml of water by 60 kg of body weight.

Finding out your daily water intake is easy

If a person is overweight, 30 ml is neededmultiply by the recommended body weight. To find out the recommended body weight, you need to subtract the number 100 from a person’s height. That is, if a person’s height is 180 centimeters, ideally he should weigh 80 kg. If you multiply 30 ml by 80 kg, it turns out that such a person needs to drink 2,400 ml (2.4 liters) of water per day. If a person wants to lose weight, it is recommended to increase the volume of water.
