Scientists have revealed the main secret of the construction of the Egyptian pyramids

Not far from the Egyptian capital Cairo is located Giza pyramid complex one of the most famous archaeologicalmonuments. It consists of many objects like the Great Sphinx and ancient tombs - the latter were intended to send the pharaohs to the afterlife. These structures were erected 4500 years ago and today they gather thousands of tourists near them. Many people are still surprised at how the Egyptians managed to create such large structures, because even today, with the availability of construction equipment, the construction of the pyramid would have cost a lot of effort and about 5 billion dollars. How the Egyptians moved huge stones, scientists already know - they used levers. As it turns out, that's not all, because a new study has proven the use of an artificial reservoir as a kind of "truck".

Interesting fact: The Great Sphinx is the most ancientmonumental sculpture on Earth. It is made in the form of a lion lying on the sand with the face of Pharaoh Khafre, whose tomb is located not far from the sculpture. Many people have no idea what a sphinx looks like from behind - see photo.

How the Egyptians built the pyramids

For many years it has been popularly believedthat the builders of the Egyptian pyramids were slaves. But this is not true, because in the material about historical myths we have already found out that the huge pyramids were built by ordinary Egyptians. According to scientists, in pyramid building 20-30 thousand men were involved, and workcarried out only in periods when there was no need to engage in agriculture. To lift heavy stones, builders used levers that removed most of the load from people.

Leverage and other similar mechanisms were actively used in the construction of the pyramids.

Close to construction sitessettlements for workers - they needed a place to sleep and eat? In these settlements, in addition to places of rest, there were workshops for making tools and kitchens for cooking and brewing beer. During archaeological excavations, scientists also managed to find places where sacrifices were made in honor of the dead pharaohs. Mostly the Egyptians sacrificed their pets.

Here is the article with all the details: How were the Egyptian pyramids built?

How the pyramid of Cheops was built

Most of the time and effort from the Egyptians clearly took the Pyramid of Cheops. It is considered the largest in the world and is the only "Seven Wonders of the World" that has survived to this day. Thousand years ago Cheops pyramid height was 146 meters. But today, due to wind and other external influences, the ancient pyramid rises to 138 meters - it has become noticeably lower.

By modern standards, the pyramid of Cheops iscomplete skyscraper. In feature films, we are often shown people carrying building blocks on their backs. This, of course, is impossible - the ancient Egyptians were smart, and tried to simplify all available processes as much as possible. It was previously noted that they used levers that performed the functions of modern cranes. In ancient papyri there is also a mention that the Egyptians transported blocks of stones through an artificial reservoir, referred to as "Khufu's pool". Today it no longer exists, but recently researchers found traces of it.

Once upon a time there was an artificial reservoir near the pyramid of Cheops

In the course of scientific work, an international groupscientists led by Professor Christophe Morandzha (Christophe Morhange), studied the water level in the Nile for eight thousand years. To do this, they took samples of bottom sediments in places where floods occur. The study showed that during the reign of the pharaohs of the III-V dynasties, the water level in the Nile River really made it possible to build an artificial reservoir near the construction site of the Cheops pyramid. This body of water could have been used by builders to quickly transport building materials and tools from the quarry directly to the foot of the structure. Of course, the stones were not just floated - special boats were used for this.

According to the results of the study, by the endreign of the VI dynasty of the pharaohs, the water level in the Nile decreased markedly. In such conditions, it was difficult for people not only to build pyramids, but to live at all. The authors of the scientific work do not exclude that famine could occur as a result of a decrease in the water level. And this, in turn, could well be the cause of the decline of the state.
