Nokia - the return of a legend

Didn't it seem strange to you that the FinnishTelecommunications company Nokia recently so unexpectedly and radically rebranded, and also timed it all for MWC 2023? And so it seemed to me that this was all nonsense. And this week, the background of such a sharp change in the company's image became known. It turns out that the Chinese from HMD Global will expire this year the license for the Nokia brand, which they have been exploiting for several years. The Finns decided not to renew the contract, but to return the brand of devices to themselves and revive the mobile division. So soon we will see real Finnish smartphones again.

Moreover, mobile Nokia not only returns tohome, the company also enlisted the support of other market players. Thus, the Japanese from Sony, who are also reviving the mobile division, will enter into an alliance with the Finnish company, and if rumors are to be believed, they will be responsible for the cameras of new smartphones. The latter is not surprising, after all, the manufacturer has extensive experience in developing sensors for mobile devices, and Xperia's own smartphones have always been famous for their photo capabilities in the hands of professionals. But Microsoft will again develop the operating system for Finnish smartphones, but already as a partner of the brand, so perhaps in the near future we will see the reincarnation of Windows Phone, as well as the return of the “tiles” so beloved by many.

All in all, looking forward to the return of the legendto the market, especially, according to insiders, the premiere of the first device from the already Finnish Nokia will take place very soon, as part of IFA 2023, which will be held in Berlin in September.

Meizu - lived, Meizu - alive, Meizu - will live!

Last year, the Chinese company Hubei XingjiTimes Technology, whose main investor is the automaker Geely (the company that bought the Swedish brand Volvo, which saved the manufacturer from bankruptcy), bought out most of the assets of the Meizu brand, and earlier this year completely absorbed the mobile device maker, becoming the sole owner of all its assets. . And this week, Meizu, already under the wing of new owners, officially announced the Meizu 20 series smartphones.

The line of devices includes three models:Meizu 20, Meizu 20 Pro and Meizu 20 Infinity. The Meizu 20 base model features a 6.5-inch AMOLED E6 display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen is claimed to have a color depth of 10 bits and a peak brightness of 800 nits. The front panel is covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass Victus. Under the lid of the smartphone, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 12 GB of RAM (LPDDR5), storage up to 512 GB (UFS 4.0) and a 4700 mAh battery (67 W fast charging). The Meizu 20 camera includes a 50MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 5MP macro sensor.

Smartphone Meizu 20 Pro is different from the baseversions with a larger 6.81-inch screen (LTPO, QHD+, 120Hz, 1800 peak brightness), improved cameras with a configuration of 50 MP, 50 MP (ultra wide angle), 50 MP (telephoto), as well as a larger 5000 mAh battery (fast charging 80W, wireless 50W).

The top version of Meizu 20 Infinity received a casemade of a combination of aluminum and stainless steel, which, according to the manufacturer, allowed to reduce the weight of the device, while maintaining its strength, as well as improve heat dissipation. The display and the rear panel of the model are covered with some kind of durable "titanium glass". The smartphone received a 6.79-inch LTPO AMOLED screen manufactured by BOE with a resolution of 3192 × 1368 pixels, an image refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1850 nits. Iron is similar to other models, only the amount of RAM can reach 16 GB, and the drive here is up to 1 TB. There are differences in the cameras, for example, the main one consists of a 50 MP sensor with optical stabilization, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle module and a 12 MP telephoto lens.

The design of Meizu 20 series smartphones is a kind ofa symbiosis of new smartphones Samsung Galaxy S23 and Apple iPhone 14, from the first, the Chinese took protruding camera lenses lined up vertically in a row, and from the second - flat edges. But the novelties differ from other products on the market from the front side, where the screen has minimal, just over 1 mm bezels, which are also the same from all sides.

Prices for new Meizu models start at 2999 yuan or about 435 US dollars and go up to 8,499 yuan or about 1,235 US dollars. As for the release of smartphones to the global market, nothing is known yet, but it will be interesting if they still appear outside of China.

Omoda conquers new markets

By the end of 2023, the Omoda brand intends to enter the25 new markets. Russia became the first export market for Omoda in 2022. Following Russia, the company expanded its presence in the Mexican market, and in March 2023, Indonesia, Australia and Turkey joined the list of export countries. According to the company, for consumers of different markets, Omoda products will not differ in either positioning or design.

The first product on the Russian market wascrossover Omoda C5, which we have already talked about. Since the start of sales, according to the automaker, more than 7,000 cars have been handed over to customers. This result allowed the model to enter the top 3 best-selling crossovers in our country, and according to data from other sources, more than half of the buyers of this car purchased it at the expense of borrowed funds. The latter is not surprising, since Omoda, like the parent Chery, now has interesting offers for car loans in collaboration with the largest banks. It is special car loan programs that today keep the domestic car market afloat, allowing the domestic AvtoVAZ concern and Chinese manufacturers to feel more or less normal on it. The rest of the market players are not so comfortable, according to the latest data, at the beginning of the year, the country managed to sell only 10,000 new cars imported through parallel imports. So the dealers, who are currently importing foreign cars on their own, should think about cooperating with banks to attract new customers.

Budget smartphone

The Infinix brand announced the official launch inRussia's new generation of smartphones of the initial SMART line. The SMART 7 model received a 6.6-inch IPS display, a MediaTek Helio A22 processor, 3/4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64 GB of permanent memory and support for microSD memory cards. The device has a 13 MP main camera and an 8 MP front camera. The battery in the smartphone is 5000 mAh, and there is also protection according to the IP53 standard.

Infinix SMART 7 with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM is available for sale at a price of 8,990 rubles, but now it can be purchased at a promotional price of 6,490 rubles.

The model got just awesome for thisprice segment back panel design with three-dimensional pattern, overall good quality display and decent battery life. The main disadvantage of Infinix SMART 7, in my opinion, is the presence of an outdated microUSB on board, while everyone is migrating to Type-C en masse.

MTS lost an egg

PJSC MTS announced changes regarding brand positioning this week. Now MTS will get a new logo, architecture and visual style in general.

Participated in the creation of the renewed MTS brandagencies Signal (part of ONY), BBDO MOSCOW, UtterDesign and ONY. At the first stage, the style of digital products and Internet sites will change, signs and design of MTS salons and offices will be gradually brought into line with the new concept over the next few years.

For my taste, the rebranding of the company came out quitecontroversial. The letters placed in the corners are not read very well, the font is specific, and only the corporate color palette contributes to recognition. Although, if I am not mistaken, the last change in the logo, when MTS had an egg in it, was received with hostility by the majority, but nothing, they got used to it over the years.

You can read about the rebranding of MTS and the company's new strategy in our separate article:

...and dessert

Not only MTS this week announcedrebranding, the Pepsi brand also updated its logo for the first time in 15 years. Moreover, the company did not invent something completely new, but, on the contrary, went back, making the logo similar to what it had before 1986 and since 1987.

And Tesla opened sales of its own GigaBier, brewed in Berlin. For 89 euros, you can buy a set of three bottles of 0.33 liters, which refer to the Cybertruck with their shape.

And finally - our selection of fresh films and series:

What to watch in April: 2 films and 6 series

There are few novelties, and for some you will have to go to cinemas. But at the end of the month there will be some good series.
